About this deal

In 2017, the BBC commissioned what was then a one-off special of Limmy's Homemade Show, which was broadcast in April 2018. Personally, I am a huge fan of "Limmy's Show", so when he starts talking about the "Millport" sketch or the "Yoker" sketch I know exactly what he is talking about and found it fascinating to see the genesis of the ideas behind these sketches and how they came to be made. I love Limmy and really enjoy his humour, but this was just so beyond what I enjoy reading lol Of course, I didn’t expect jokes constantly and I honestly really enjoyed his view on mental illness and being human, even when his writing got very dark at times. a lot of stuff in this book was starkly relatable, I ADORED how it was written, I loved the honesty and the frankness and the humour and the liberal use of the word cunt.

They’d get a couple of pieces of wood, a hammer, nails and elastic bands, and they’d make themselves a crossbow. Other than that, my mum would spend her time in our house, looking after me and my brother, or watching the telly. When it was sunny, they’d find a piece of broken mirror, head to a busy road, and shine the sun into drivers’ eyes. He crosses into the middle class through IT, anxious about looking like the 'wee ned guy' in the office. It has definitely gave me the confidence to go up and speak to him if I ever see him walking about town. In 2014, Limmy had a regular segment in the second series of the Charlie Brooker news satire show Weekly Wipe.

I might have given you the impression that I had all these pals during my primary school years, and we’d go about causing mayhem. But – and this sounds terrible – when I think about a world where wee boys aren’t throwing darts in the air where it might hit them right in the fucking eyeball, it makes me sad .I did that thing where I enjoyed the book so intensely that I flew through it in one day, which is frustrating because I wanted it to go on forever. A boy would be grabbed and lifted up, held horizontally, with his legs spread apart, and rammed into this pole in the playground, so that it crushed his cock and balls. From a literary point of view, it is not great, it is not particularly elaborately written, or even funny, but it is not meant to be, it is meant to be Limmy talking honestly about his life. Perhaps then the overriding takeaway of this book is how humour and personal struggle are two sides of the same coin. it's definitely a very interesting read and I certainly recommend the audiobook version of not just this book but all of his previous books - It always adds a extra level of depth to hear him speak the words, and he's brilliant at it.

If you are not a fan, that may be less interesting, though you can always watch the sketches on youtube as you are reading.I told him that I always felt pure out of place because I must have been the only person in my school that didn’t know the words. The first two novels are readily available in digital audiobook form, Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers and Better Than Life. While such antics may seem shocking to some parents in the 21st century, the kind who would never dream of letting their darling children play unsupervised on wasteground, we should remind ourselves it wasn’t so long ago that children were still expected to amuse themselves outdoors. It sounds like he was on a tragic path, but by the time I got to secondary school David had a reputation as somebody you didn’t want to fuck with.
