About this deal

As the elements in the DuraCeramic are inorganic, ceramic coated cookware can withstand extremely high temperatures of up 450 C (842 F). In comparison, Teflon coatings tend to deteriorate after reaching 260 C (500 F). Is DuraCeramic Safe? Slow cooking couldn’t be easier for busy families – offering fuss-free, hands-off, one-pot meals. Simply chop up, drop in and turn on for beautifully cooked food ready when you are. Soups and stews, curries and casseroles, pot roasts and pasta bakes – even perfectly cooked rice can be made in a slow cooker while you get on with other things.

The first thing you need to consider with any slow cooker is its capacity – each will list its bowl size in litres. Bear in mind that this won’t translate to the same amount of food, as you shouldn’t fill slow cookers to the brim. This gap allows your food to bubble and simmer properly. The usable cooking space will be around three-quarters of its bowl size, for example, a five-litre cooker can accommodate around four litres of food. Slow cooking couldn’t be easier for time-pressed families – offering fuss-free, hands-off, one-pot meals. Simply chop up, drop in and turn on for beautifully cooked food ready when you are. Soups and stews, curries and casseroles, pot roasts and pasta bakes – even perfectly cooked rice can be made in a slow cooker while you get on with other things. Fewer items to wash up, tastier slow-cooked stews, curries and soups, and a puddle-free worktop – what more could you ask for? In an ideal world, a slow cooker at this price point would also have a timer and automatic switch to keep warm rather than relying on manual controls. However, what you do get for your money is excellent build quality, perfectly controlled heat, and a design that makes cooking super-easy.Manufacturers of ceramic-coated cookware and kitchen appliances such as Oster claim that their products are extremely safe, durable, reliable, and contain no harmful chemical, toxins, carcinogens or heavy metals. Before any ceramic coating can be applied to the metal surface, it is essential to transform the oxygen and silicon liquid solution into a gel. This gel is then applied on metallic surfaces. The Sol-gel coating is applied using either a spray or dipping the items into the gel. The coating is then cured or hardened by heat via the process known as ‘curing’.

The CSC026 comes in any colour you want, as long as it’s gloss white – but that’s OK with us as it’s a great looking slow cooker. The front of the slow cooker is home to a large control panel that contains a digital display and buttons to control cooking time and temperature. Ceramic coating doesn’t peel or break down at high temperatures and doesn’t emit any toxic fumes. While cooking at normal temperatures, say under 500 degrees, they are a much better alternative than Teflon (PTFE) coated pan. I started by making bolognese sauce, first searing the meat on the hob. Despite the dish claiming to be compatible with induction cookers, it wouldn’t work on my hob, possibly a result of the ferrous plate of the dish being too small. Those with older hobs that require a certain diameter of pan may struggle to use it.

Is DuraCeramic Safe?

Does your slow cooker have good heat distribution? Some can suffer from hot spots that cause drying out in corners or at the base. Uneven heat is something that’s more likely to occur in larger bowls. This usually happens to ceramic cookware originated from Asia and Latin American countries where health and public safety regulations are a bit relaxed. The fact it’s round is great if you’re planning on baking in your slow cooker (for example a slow cooker Gingerbread Cake) – no strange oval shaped cakes here! Basic slow cookers won’t get hot enough to sauté meat or vegetables, so you’ll need to do this in a pan before transferring the contents to the bowl. However, more expensive models offer a different one-pot solution. This can either be bowls that you use on your hob or in your oven in place of a pan (some will even be induction compatible). They will need to be moved to the slow cooker base. Machines with a sauté function for high-heat browning can simply be switched to slow cooking.

The main reason I upgraded to this model was that my older one was a little worse for wear after using it countless, countless times, and I wanted to opt for a non-toxic material when it came to the pot itself. Aesthetics & build We love that the cooking pot is hob-safe, meaning if a recipe requires pre-cooking or searing ingredients (for example a slow cooker roast beef) – you don’t need to use a separate pan! Once your preparation step is complete you can simply lift the pot into the slow cooker. Sadly there are no rubber handles on the cooking pot, so you’ll need oven gloves to transfer the pot from the hob to the slow cooker. If you need help selecting your own slow cooker model, I provide a video lesson free of charge to help you do so. Just go here, and select the free option. Yes. Oster claims that their DuraCeramic coated pans, waffle irons, and other cookware are 100 percent free of from these toxic elements. Slow cookers range in size from a compact 1.5 litres to a 6.5-litre bowl, so be sure to choose the right size for the way you intend to cook. As a rough guide, 1.5-3 litres will feed one or two people, 3-5 litres, three or four people and anything over five litres should suit a large family, with six litres or more ideal for batch cooks who like to fill the freezer. Alternatively, a larger cooker is great for those who like to eat what’s leftover for lunch the next day. Most ceramic coated cookware are usually made of metal (mainly aluminum) with a layer of ceramic-coating. Generally, Ceramic coatings are derived from inorganic minerals, mainly oxygen and silicon. In this article, we will talk about an improved version of ceramic coating called ‘ DuraCeramic’. DuraCeramic is developed by Belgian cookware manufacturer Oster. The company claims that this unique and innovative ceramic coating is four times more resilient than conventional Teflon coated surfaces. It also won’t peel or flake with extended use. DuraCeramic is also PFOA and PTFE free, the company claims. You can activate a keep warm setting to keep your food ready for as long as six hours after your cooking mode has finished. The sear mode took only a few minutes to pre-heat and we were able to brown our onions before adding curry ingredients, which delivered a lot of extra flavour. The slow cooker's 'reduce' function was useful for bubbling away excess liquid after slow cooking. One of the best things about the Drew and Cole Cleverchef Pro is the app, which comes with a huge range of recipes at the touch of a button. Compared to a lot of multi-cookers the Drew and Cole Cleverchef Pro has an uncomplicated display that's simple to customise. A great choice for those who want a smart multi-cooker. So, what is the takeaway here? If you ask whether ceramic coated cookware are a healthier choice and environmentally friendly too? The answer is yes—that is if you cook your food at high temperatures.
