About this deal

For those unfamiliar with the Smiths, it was a fitting introduction to the best aspects of the group. Hatful…'s versions of the debut’s material, including ''Hand In Glove'', ''Reel Around The Fountain'' and ''What Difference Does It Make'', suddenly come alive in this quick and dirty environment – more closely resembling the live favourites that had won them acclaim in the first place. Hatful of Hollow is a compilation album by English rock band the Smiths, released on 12 November 1984 [11] by Rough Trade Records.

Hatful Of Hollow had a further trump card in reserve as it reprised several superb, lesser-lauded Smiths gems. I've heard _Hatful of Hollow_ described as the definitive Smiths record, and it could well be, but I don't think it's necessarily a great introduction. It was eventually released in the United States on 9 November 1993 by Sire Records, who had initially declined to release the album in the US.Influenced heavily by Keith Richards (Rolling Stones), Ray Davies (the Kinks) Mick Ronson (David Bowie) and James Honeyman-Scott (Pretenders), Johnny Marr had an intense understanding of how to effectively compose guitar-based pop music. Enhanced by material of this quality, Hatful Of Hollow was rightly hailed as an important milestone, with a later BBC retrospective rightly noting that it marked “the point where even the doubters began to really believe the hype surrounding the band”.

Others might appreciate your love from the outside, they might respect it or tolerate it or praise it.Favourite tracks: William, It Was Really Nothing, Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now, The Night Has Opened My Eyes, Please, . As if it isn’t bad enough that I’ve avoided reviewing this album for over a year now, once I finally forced myself to analyse this album, I couldn’t manage to put my feelings for it into words. A Grade A++ collection of tracks, and the folks on the Steve Hoffman forums were right- the Rough Trade pressings are the way to go with this album! I once checked and was surprised to discover that HoH and TWWL (the British version at least) share no tracks. Additionally, the old cover had a large sky-blue frame with the legends "The Smiths" and "Hatful of Hollow" above and underneath the picture.
