About this deal

It’s been three days since Al killed himself. Three days since Nathan found his older brother’s body. Three days since he hid Al’s drawing with its desperate scribbled note: ‘Help me.’ Nate is certain there has to be more to his brother’s suicide than meets the eye, and he’s determined to get to the bottom of it. My Thoughts Be the first to find out about news, opportunities events and jobs for writers and readers as well as news from our own projects.

I couldn't imagine how people with mental illness cope with their lives. I respect them. I don't really understand why people are so mean to others just because they have disabilities. This book was intense. This book could, however, be quite unsettling for certain people who have a connection to suicide or depression. I would highly recommend this book for young adults as some scenes can be quite graphic. The ending left me content but I didn’t want the story to finish; I wanted to read more about how Megan and Nathan deal with the death of Al after the funeral.

You really shine a light on some of the pressures facing young people today, particularly bullying and the power of social media. What inspired you to write about this? Al’s world view, as shared by excerpts of his thoughts included at the start of each chapter, is hopeful and considered. He encompasses vuja de, the idea of being able to see the same thing, something ordinary, over and over again, then finding a new perspective. He teaches Nathan and Megan to look around them and really see what is there, to find the beauty in what others don’t. This becomes his motif and is showcased in his artworks – even their descriptions alone make you see and feel what is being inspired. Powerful, gritty and ultimately uplifting, this book deserves so much success. Get it into the hands of as many people as you possibly can - I for one will be championing this novel for a very long time to come. And The Stars Were Burning Brightly cannot be described in just a few words, when the amount of emotions you feel are endless. This book is raw, heartbreaking, infuriating, bright, powerful and so many more words that I cannot form right now.And the Stars Were Burning Bright is such a wonderful, heart wrenching story with important topic (bullying) more people should talk about.

Night Mayor Franklefink has vanished from the Transylvanian Express - and it's up to you to solve the case! Part of the Solve Your Own Mystery seri... Nate and Megan tread a path, tentatively, together, to discover the truth, uncovering hate, social media and cyber bullying. Al’s death has hit Nate particularly hard, for a few reasons. Not only was he the one who found his brother’s body, which was obviously devastating. He also feels like he might have been to blame; on the day that Al killed himself, Nate ignored a call from him to keep hanging out with his friends. He hasn’t told anybody this, afraid that they’ll be as disgusted by him as he is by himself.Nathan, 15 year old boy lost his older brother and didn't know why his brother had to kill himself. The family is in grief, especially because Al was a favorite child. The way the author described the feeling of a mother who lost her child really moved me. I liked the issues about broken family and divorce. It i because children who are in this situation cope differently than others. And The Stars Were Burning Brightly is a powerful book about grief. It follows Nate, who is determined to find the reason for his brother Al's suicide. He's convinced that finding answers to all his questions is going to help him deal with his grief. The other main character in the novel is Megan, who is also dealing with grief after Al - her friend's - suicide. Convinced that she didn't do enough to appreciate Al while he was alive, Megan is determined to be a better friend to him now, and to keep his memory alive through the passion for art that they both shared. When fifteen-year-old Nathan discovers that his older brother Al, has taken his own life, his whole world is torn apart.

The main focus of this book is teenagers but they were written so poorly in my opinion. A lot that happens feels so out of character and stereotypical of kids that it didn’t feel like a true reflection of how things would happen in this situation. A lot of actions and speech was so exaggerated and over the top that it made me cringe a little bit. This novel was one of my most anticipated reads for 2020 and man did it deliver. And the Stars were Burning Brightly is a book about Nathan and Meg who have to deal with the aftermath of Al's death. And while the plot may sound simple, it is anything but. The story is eloquently written and with so much heart. The characters are at the front of this story and every scene carries its weight. From a writer's perspective, this was just so amazingly written. I'm glad I've finally told the truth. Hide what I like, for the sake of fitting in. I used to think having no one to hang around with would be the worst thing ever. But hanging around with people who make you feel bad, who constantly say snide things about you or push you out, that's even worse.” An emotionally rich and current story of suicide, mental health, bullying, grief and growing up around social media.

AND THE STARS WERE BURNING BRIGHTLY is the kind of book you do need a snapshot of insight into before you enter, in this case I do recommend reading the blurb. This is a story about suicide, grief, bullying and social media. It is powerful and painful, chilling and stunning. I think it’s a really important book and it’s 100% worth the emotional investment. I will say that this book can be difficult/triggering to read for some people so I would be careful if you are sensitive or in a bad place. This book holds such an important message and should be made an essential part of senior school reading. Most people have experienced some sort of bullying in their life, some more than others. What this story does is raises awareness and perhaps those that bully may think twice about it.
