About this deal

Overall, this calculator is so powerful that its use should be banned in GCE exams, but in fact it's approved! You can check what version of the OS you have already, by checking the Memory application in the calculator.

Casio’s 9750 series is the budget alternative in a lineup of Casio graphing calculators that is already the affordable alternative to Texas Instruments. The fx-9750GII graphs lines about twice as fast as the TI-84 Plus CE (Texas Instruments’ newest TI-84 calculator). It also has the upside of being able to graph lines pretty quickly because the calculator doesn’t have to draw so many pixels. The fx-9750GII is an basic graphic calculator, capable of plotting graphs and data charts, calculating probability distributions and matrix arithmetic. Incredibly easy to use: just think about where you'd expect the facility to be and how you'd expect to use it, and there it is! The 2009 release of the the 9750GII introduced USB, making it even easier to upgrade your calculator’s operating system and upload apps.

Features icon menu system, data communications with PC and calculators, matrix/vector, metric conversions, 21 character x 8 line display and user memory. From the home screen, choose option 2 STAT by either pressing the “2” button or arrowing over to it and pressing the EXE button. You just have to enter the graphing app and then you will be able to enter functions in a list and then press [F6] for draw and your lines will be graphed. From any screen, you can press the [MENU] button and be taken the main menu where you can run any of the 14 main apps on the calculator. Not the current solar powered model but excellent value for money and came complete with instructions and Casio software DVD ROM.

Casio markets itself as a simple to use and affordable alternative to their competitors, and that once again turns out to be true. Several improvements have been made since the release of the original fx-9750G and the fx-9750G+, as it now has 62 kb of usable memory instead of 28 kb, and has had two major revisions. When plotting parametric curves, you need to go into 'set-up' and change the default setting to allow negative values of the parameter (t) to be used, as well as positive values. You'll need a copy of the latest fxRemote, a copy of the latest available fx-9860GII BIOS, the USB cable that connects your calculator to the computer, and finally a relatively fresh set of batteries. I would like to ask you if it would be possible to create parametric matrices on the Casio fx-9750GII graphing calculator, that is, to have matrices whose elements are a function of parameters and always have the results with the parameters. As the model is a cut-down fx-9860GII, selecting that under Graphic Models will bring you to the correct software.

Taking everything into account: ease of use, features, build quality, display clarity, suitability for school/college use, nothing else comes near. The newer model uses a SH4a CPU, has a white case shell, with a deep blue keyboard surround, and is informally known as the fx-9750GII-2. Its raison d'etre is to get you through the exam with flying colours, and in this respect, it excels. If that's not enough, you upgraded the operating system to give it a natural display, spreadsheet, document facility and the ability to take powerful add on apps (free of charge) which give it CAS facilities. Whatever the reason, for a calculator that's almost universally adopted by college students, both here and overseas, it's disgusting that Casio haven't put this right! The fx9750gii was launched over 11 years ago, and almost from 'day 1' owners have complained about the lack of a natural display as standard, and have resorted to upgrading the operating to the fx9860gii, by ROM flashing. Assuming it was allowed in an A-level Maths exam; in many instances, its extra facilities wouldn't compensate for it being slower to use. In fact, sometimes I have seen it for half of the big name calculators, and yet you can have a brand new graphing calculator.
