Tau Battlesuit Size Comparison, from left to right: Fire Warrior in Combat Armour, XV25 Stealthsuit, XV8 Crisis Battlesuit, XV8-05 Enforcer Crisis Battlesuit, XV88 Broadside Battlesuit, XV104 Riptide Battlesuit, and XV02 Pilot Battlesuit Not merely through words do the Ethereal Caste soothe and sustain their people. Some are also learned in nigh-supernatural healing arts.If this ETHEREAL model is part of your Crusade army, and if it was not destroyed during the battle, then at the end of the battle you can ignore one failed Out of Action test taken for a T’AU EMPIRE CORE unit - that test is treated as having been passed instead. The Kappa Mortis Incident was an important event that contributed to the future use of XV15 Stealthsuits. An Ultramarines strike force sent to the planet of Kappa Mortis managed to recover a single XV15 helmet from a crashed Aquila Lander bearing captured Tau technology. This forced the Tau Earth Caste to accelerate development of a new type of Stealthsuit as a result, rushing the single-weapon XV25 Stealthsuit into service ahead of the much more difficult to produce XV22 Stealthsuit they had hoped to introduce en masse. This caused XV15 Stealthsuits to become less common in Tau Hunter Cadres due to their replacement as the standard Stealthsuit by the newer XV25. VEHICLE and BATTLESUIT models with this tenet do not suffer the penalty incurred to their hit rolls for firing Heavy weapons at enemy units that are within Engagement Range of them. There are few more perilous and nightmarish battlefields than those created when a tangled cityscape is plunged into ruinous war. Yet it is amidst such conditions that the T’au of Sa’cea Sept excel. They make an art of fighting through half-collapsed cities, knowing just how to exploit this inimical environment to their advantage.

Her'ex'vre was then transcribed phonetically into Low Gothic as the designation "XV," which forms the foundational prefix of Imperial nomenclature for the different types of T'au Battlesuits. Numerical designators applied to a type of battlesuit generally consist of one or two numerals placed after the XV prefix. Below are the secondary numerical codes and the tactical function assigned to them that have been identified by the Imperium. Note that these numbers should be read as "XVx1" where the "XV" designates the unit as a T'au Battlesuit, the small "x" represents the number from 1 to 9 (10 in the case of the XV104 and XV107) indicating the mass class of the battlesuit, and the second numeral indicates the battlesuit's operational role. The empire already has a foothold in this system thanks to reciprocal trade contracts with friendly local mercantile concerns.Select 1 planet and halve its Diplomat Power (rounding up). T'au Battlesuit size comparison, from left to right: Fire Warrior in Combat Armour, XV25 Stealthsuit, XV8 Crisis Battlesuit, XV8-05 Enforcer Crisis Battlesuit, XV88 Broadside Battlesuit, XV104 Riptide Battlesuit, and XV02 Pilot BattlesuitFire Markerlights (Action): One or more MARKERLIGHT units from your army can start to perform this action at the start of your Movement phase. AIRCRAFT MARKERLIGHT units can perform this action. The action is completed at the start of your next Shooting phase. If this action is successfully completed, for each model in that unit that is equipped with one or more markerlights, for each markerlight that model is equipped with, select one enemy unit within 36" of that model that would be an eligible target for that model if its unit had been selected to shoot, and roll one D6: on a 3+, that enemy unit gains one Markerlight token.’ XV46 Vanguard Void Battlesuit - The XV46 Vanguard Void Battlesuit is a newly developed T'au Battlesuit that was designed by Earth Caste mechanics of the T'au Empire out of a need for a specialised battlesuit to explore space hulks. They incorporate many advanced and miniaturised technologies in their armour, and are armed with an array of powerful short-ranged weapons and potent defensive systems to aid them in their exploration role. If you selected a Tactical Philosophy at the start of the battle, T’AU AUXILIARY units that are in the same Detachment as units with this tenet benefit from your army’s selected Tactical Philosophy. Hunter Cadre teams have access to drones. You can also replace one operative on a Fire Warrior or Pathfinder fire team with one drone operative, or replace a Stealth battlesuit with two drones, chosen from the list below: But the utility of a Stealth team isn’t found in its offensive output. One of the most interesting points on the XV25 datasheet is the Infiltrate ability. Stealths may setup anywhere on the board that is not within the opponent’s deployment zone and is more than 12 inches from an enemy unit. Almost any unit with this ability, or something similar, is worth a look in 9th edition 40k.

Mobility – Between drones and Stealth battlesuits, Hunter Cadre kill teams have access to a large number of operatives with FLY, letting them move around boards pretty easily. This system lies firmly in the grip of a tyrannical regime, which must be defeated and the fear of it broken before victory can be achieved.Add 2 to the Military Power of this star system’s Core World. Stimulant Injector - A Battlesuit with Stimulant Injectors is fitted with advanced life support systems that are able to flood the Battlesuit pilot's body with painkillers, analgesic drugs, and other life-sustaining stimulants should he become badly wounded in combat.

XV25 Stealthsuits differ from XV15 Stealthsuits mainly through the additional space provided due to the slightly larger and bulkier form of the suit. This extra space allows an XV25 to take a Battlesuit Support System to boost its combat effectiveness, whether it be through improved weapon accuracy, the ability to identify and target multiple targets independently, or enhanced defensive measures. All XV25 Stealthsuits are armed with a Burst Cannon which is integrated into the suit's upper arm. This befits the Stealthsuit's role, as its wearer can lay down a hail of suppressive anti-infantry firepower using the weapon. An XV25 Stealthsuit can also use its Burst Cannon to target the usually more vulnerable side and rear armour plating of enemy vehicles to great effectiveness. So full of their own pomp and self-importance are the denizens of this system that they will not be easily cowed. You cannot use the Show of Force Requisition while assimilating this star system. XV86 Coldstar Battlesuit; based on the Enforcer armour (below) featuring aerodynamic fins along the armour to help streamline the suit and increase mobility. Given to commanders It is of note that some battlesuits may have a secondary operational role, and so a rare third numeral may be included in its designation. Please note that the recently introduced XV104 Riptide, XV107 R'varna, and XV109 Y'vahra Battlesuits are uniquely named, for their three numbers are meant to be read as 10-4, 10-7, and 10-9 respectively; with 10 being the mass class and 4, 7, and 9 being the designator of their tactical role.XV8-02 Iridium Battlesuit After the death of Commander Pridestar to a sniper's bullet and the subsequent Tau defeat during the Klodate Worlds Suppression, the Earth Caste developed an experimental iridium alloy and produced only enough for a small series of Battlesuits. While it offers Tau Commanders and their Bodyguards optimal protection, it is a luxury that few can afford, though Commander Dawnstar of the Dal'yth Sept is known to call upon them. Finally, there is also one other unique option available to the squad that can’t be bought by any other units in the Tau codex, although if we’re thinking about it’s really more of an upgrade for another unit rather than the Stealth Suits. For 20pts the squad can be equipped with a Homing Beacon, which can be placed at the beginning of the movement phase and allows one unit arriving via Manta Strike to instead make a Low-Altitude Drop (which is the same thing, but they have to be placed wholly within 6″ of the Beacon and don’t care about proximity to the enemy.) The Beacon doesn’t need to be used immediately, but it does short out of the enemy moves within 9″ of it, so you will typically want to be doing so. This used to be a much more powerful option when it could be placed at the end of the movement phase (allowing your Stealths to move over and place it where you wanted it) rather than the beginning; it’s still not wholly worthless, but all things considered it’s probably not an exciting option. Also keep in mind if you’re trying to do some Crisis alpha strike shenanigans that a Low-Altitude Drop is not a Manta Strike, and thus will prevent you from using the Farsight stratagem to get that +1 to hit. Fire Warriors are ostensibly the bread and butter of Hunter Cadre Kill Teams. Compared to Pathfinders they come with a 4+ save and a few more weapon options, though Pulse Rifles are mechanically identical to the Pulse Carbines that Pathfinders get. Fire Warriors do have access to Pulse Blasters however, which offer two modes of fire. The long-range mode is a standard boltgun 4-shot, 3/4 damage profile while the Close range profile jumps to 4/5 damage with 6″ Range and AP1. That’s neat, but also requires you to get a lot closer than you might otherwise want to do with a team that can’t do much in melee. The advancement of T'au Battlesuits has mirrored the rate at which the T'au have expanded across the galaxy. The earliest prototypes were field-tested during the early stages of the First Sphere Expansion, and although they were successful, the going was slow. In 576.M39, improvements in anti-gravitic motors were combined with relatively new T'au Battlesuit technology at the time to form the first T-Series Battlesuits, which helped the Fire Caste complete the annexation of the Tash'var Sept.

XV22 Stealthsuit - The XV22 Stealthsuit is an experimental T'au Battlesuit that has been recently developed by the Earth Caste of the T'au Empire. The XV22 itself is of a similar mass to the XV15 and XV25 Stealthsuits, and is designed to fulfil a similar role in covert operations that require a high degree of stealth. Currently, the XV22 has only been issued to trusted Fire Caste commanders and some of their higher-ranking and veteran subordinates. Until the end of the Turning Point, Fire Warriors can re-roll a single shoot die when they perform a Shoot Action with a pulse rifle if they did not move during the activation. Right off the bat this a stinker being in essence an inferior version of the Necrons’ Relentless Onslaught as it is restricted to a type of operative and weapon and requires the operative to not move. This later requirement is especially painful in a game where movement is extremely powerful. D Breach and Clear (1 CP) Stealth Suits are the lightest battlesuit fielded by the Tau military in large numbers, although this is actually somewhat misleading as the name technically refers to two different battlesuit variants. The XV25 version is the most commonly seen and is the larger of the two, having most of the features that are commonly expected of a battlesuit and standing significantly taller than a space marine in stature, roughly equivalent to Terminator armor. XV15s, on the other hand, are essentially a powered exoskeleton equipped with jet thrusters, allowing a single infantryman to carry significantly larger weapon loadouts than are normally possible as well as incorporating the various baffling and distortion systems common to the Stealth Suit. XV15s seem to have been largely phased out by the Fire Caste, although presumably some legacy units are still in operation. Versatility – Hunter Cadre Kill Teams are one of the most complex teams in the Compendium, with many options for different operatives, the ability to put markerlights on enemy units, and the flexibility to run as either a horde or an elite team. You’ve got options when you run this team and you won’t be able to cover them all with a single 20-operative roster.

Those who will not accept the message of the T’au’va, and who cannot see the benefits of willing assimilation into the T’au Empire, must be rendered compliant through military force. They will still fall, of course, as battlesuit teams drop from the heavens with guns blazing and Hunter Cadres sweep unstoppably from one battlefront to the next. Regrettably, however, such conflicts may reduce the world’s infrastructure to ruins before they are done.If your Crusade force has a number of Military points equal to or higher than that planet’s Military Power, subtract that planet’s Military Power from your Crusade force’s Military points total and your Crusade force takes over that planet. Remember to apply that planet’s Assimilation Abilities when it is taken over.
