About this deal

It started out well enough (thus I gave it three stars), but 2/3 of the way through the book, our hero and heroine turn into terrible people due to pride and the book turned awful. She had not eaten anything since yesterday, and now she was very dizzy. There was no food in the room except for the wine bottles and glasses on the table. She had never drank alcohol in her life and she had always been her teachers' favorite student.

I enjoyed The Substitute Bride, though I confess I found it a bit slow in places. It wasn’t until after I’d finished it that I realised why. It’s reprint of an older title, first published in 1977. It seems to me that modern Regency romances have a little more zip about them and maybe a little more joy. (The incomparable Georgette Heyer is an exception, of course.) Maybe it’s me: maybe it’s a personal preference; but the book did feel a little dated. He doesn't seem as fun and cheerful as he was then and Angelica hopes to see his good nature return. After a few weeks in a face-saving and unconsummated MOC to save face for the hero, the H gets drunk and tries to rape his wife. He doesn’t although they do consummate it shortly after as he calls out his unfaithful first wife’s name. The historic tone was great, I loved it. One of my biggest pet peeves in a historical fiction/historical romance is when there is too much of a modern voice in a character or throughout the entirety of the book. There was no risk of that here, I am very glad to say. Of course there are some of the troupier plots known to historical romance/fiction in this book, but it wasn't cheesy nor did they detract from the book whatsoever.

Lily makes the ultimate sacrifice for her dear cousin and replaces her at the alter. Gervase has never met his bride to be and is going through with this marriage out of duty. What neither expect is to find a true love through an arrangement... however Lily is harbouring a secret, as she is not who Gervase was meant to marry. The Substitute Bride by Janet Dean is a sweet book about a marriage of convenience, the effect of secrets on a relationship, and the ability for personal change. Autumn's heart sank. She stood still and took a deep breath before she began speaking, "I'm in desperate need of money to pay Grandmother's medical fee. I'll marry Charles Taylor instead of Yvonne as soon as I get the money." I gave this book 4.75 of 5.0 stars for plot, storyline and characterization. This regency is a heated one in places so be prepared.I liked this book but it will not be one of my favorites. Although, Author’s attempt at Jane Austen’s writing style fell short in my opinion, I still enjoyed it. Her writing style was not the only aspect that resembled the Jane Austen, the plot was not very original and had several similarities with Jane Eyre. After leaving the restaurant, Olivia is torn between going to Vincent’s house and going to her parent’s place. She fears that the man might recognize her if she spends too much time with him, but she also doesn’t want him to be offended by not listening to his requests. This was such a fun book to read. When Ted finds out this is not the bride he intended, there is bound to frustration, but I loved that he married her anyway. He needed a bride and she needed a home.

I've always loved a good historical romance. Even more so, if there were substitutes included. It was a very interesting and entertaining read. Jealousy and the drama just added to this. All in all, I think this was a great read and I completed this in a day. note: it's come to my attention that this was first published in 1977 and blah blah blah different times but it still made me go :/ Supporting characters also added to the story and I liked how the ending tied all together perfectly. Loved the epilogue! Quintos, Napoleon (2010-02-12). "Rafael Rosell is happy to be busy on TV". Showbuzz. ABS-CBN . Retrieved 2010-02-14. The bath scene had the potential to be REALLY sexy but the author instead just made Angelica angry and unresponsive and Giles offensively aggressive. And it really didn't help matters to make it so that Giles didn't even remember their first time together!?Two of my favourite type of books are S-T and historic romance. After loving Noels ST books, I was really looking forward to this Recency Romance, and I can say I'm very impressed! Loved loved loved. I was seriously craving a historical read and this just fell into my lap, I was not disappointed. the prose is excellent. it's so close to actual regency prose that i found myself skimming because my brain just doesn't do regency prose. I liked the characters of Giles' daughter Jenny and his sister Lydia. They really brought life and energy to the story. The Marquess of Westford only offered to marry disgraced Elizabeth Cosgrove to save her family’s honour. He has no idea that an innocent girl has taken her place.

It’s not the worst book I’ve read but I didn’t really enjoy it. I am sorry to be critical - but this is sadly no Georgette Heyer, Jane Austen or even a Tessa Dare!! I found the language stiff and stilted, and the story trite and stereotypical. I was really quite bored. Autumn twitched her nose. It was the first time that Wendy admitted that she was her daughter. But she was immediately dejected as Wendy told the world Yvonne was her beloved daughter and she was only a substitute. The door opened suddenly and two strangers entered. Both men were rough looking and neither of them was Brian. Olivia realizes that someone set her up and uses all her strength to get up from that bed, cover herself with a blanket and leave that room. Being under the drug’s influence, she is sexually aroused and ends up harassing a man all night long.Elizabeth Manning, escaping an imminent arranged marriage, becomes the wife of Ted Logan. Both the characters and the setting are enjoyable and believable. What is intriguing about this book are the dichotomies: city girl/farmer; pampered daughter/farm wife; honesty/deceptiveness; strong faith/shaky trust in God, etc. What unifies the book, and the marriage, are the compassion and generosity of Elizabeth and Ted. To be honest, and I hope I don't offend anyone, but these types of books are often cheesy. I read them once in awhile because I need something that doesn't make me think. This one; however, was really good! Is that what you're going to do to your bride tonight as well?" The person who asked this had a sly smirk on his face. "Or... have you other plans for her?" He had only heard of the beloved daughter of the Woodsen family, but never had the chance of meeting her. In fact, there were very few people who had seen her before. Problem. The Marquess🐺🍆⛲ is an extremely possessive and jealous man, but at the same time, he assumes Lili💃💋 is a lightskirt, and starts out treating the innocent👼 and naive young woman as such! BAD, BAD, NASTY MAN!🔥
