James Edward O'Brien (born 1972) [1] is a British radio presenter, podcaster, author, and former tabloid journalist and television presenter. Since 2004, he has been a presenter for talk station LBC, [2] on weekdays between 10 am and 1 pm, hosting a phone-in discussion of current affairs, views and real-life experiences. Between October 2017 and November 2018, he hosted a weekly interview series with JOE titled Unfiltered with James O'Brien. He has occasionally presented BBC's Newsnight.

O'Brien made national headlines in April 2009 when footballer Frank Lampard phoned his show to object to tabloid stories about his private life and O'Brien's discussion of them. Lampard's former fiancée, Elen Rivas, had alleged that Frank Lampard had turned their home into a bachelor pad while she and Lampard's children were living in a rented flat. Lampard phoned in, objecting to the assertion that he was "weak" and "scum" and said that he had fought "tooth and nail" to keep his family together. [18] Public comments on Lampard's reaction praised Lampard's "brave" and "articulate" handling of the situation. [18] The exchange later earned O'Brien, who defended his conduct in an equally heated exchange with Kay Burley on Sky News, a Bronze Award in the Best Interview category of the 2010 Sony Radio Academy Awards. Questions can come from the world of science, literature, language or be as bonkers as “Why do pigeons have manky feet?” or “Do birds get jet lag?” The rules are simple: Googling is forbidden, and, if giving an answer, callers have to state their credentials. A caller may have a degree in a particular area of expertise, work in a specific field, or have seen a documentary on the subject. The people who thought oh he's just a good bloke, oh he's just a bit of fun, oh good old Boris, shouldn't be held to the same rules others should be held to...it is absolutely shameful that my profession is still populated by people who have spent the best part of a decade treating him like some sort of messiah."
