About this deal

Sega Toys Homestar FluxGreat for recreating a realistic-looking night sky inside. It's on the pricier end of the market but the option to upgrade your disc collection is attractive. The night sky representation is about as realistic as it gets.★★★★½ Best Color Display Star Projectors: Parrot Uncle 270 Degrees Rotating Laser Stars & Nebula Projector “Dynamic color display and unique patterns of starry patterns make this a popular choice for the most creative starry skies and galaxies on your walls.” To give you an amazing night sky experience in the comfort of your own home, we rounded up the best galaxy projectors on the market.

The wheel shape of Atmosphere is similar to BlissLights'SkyLite 2.0, but with four support panels over two giving a little more flexibility than the aforementioned when positioning. It can also be laid flat and has little rubber 'pads' to stop it from getting scratched if you do. It is slim and easily fits on a bookcase or bedside table and it also ships with a long power cable (USB-A to DC) to allow repositioning of any kind. The LED shines bright and the colors and lasers are both vivid and can both be dimmed to suit the mood. The 'stars' (laser) and the 'nebula' (LEDs) can be independently controlled. National Geographic Astro Planetarium would make a nice space gift for a budding astronomer. It has great functionality, with a time and date selector and a built-in speaker.★★★★½The Atmosphere is to be used in conjunction with the ' Smart Life' App for full functionality. You do have to create an account and your Wi-Fi needs to be at 2.4GHz frequency (ours wasn't so we had to update this before use). Once set up, you can also link it to your home's smart device, in our case Google Home. Not only can you turn the device on and off, but also change the base color using your voice — nice! Other modifications you can make in the app are the speed of rotation, level of brightness, countdown timer, and scheduled activation. Some galaxy projectors use batteries, while others require a plug. Both versions have their advantages, but it just depends on what you’re looking for or what’s available to you. We obviously recommend avoiding disposable batteries whenever possible. Settings and special features Control is simple, using three buttons — power, rotation and sleep timer — and it is powered by a battery which you can charge with a USB-C cable. You're not tied to a power source like with the Homestar Flux, and you don't have to keep changing the batteries as you do with the National Geographic model—again — another happy medium.

In theory, yes. Most models of star projectors run from mains AC power or DC through a USB port, so they will run as long as they are plugged in. Some models are battery-powered, meaning you run the risk of the battery running out of power overnight. While the terms are often used interchangeably, star projectors can also be used to refer to unrealistic night and ambient or mood-enhancing lights that aren't scientifically accurate. Planetariums on the other hand are strictly realistic and accurate depictions of the night sky, which are sometimes even time and location-sensitive to show you the night sky as it appears at a given time. How do I choose a star projector? Having completed a recent Brainstorm Toys Deep Space Home Planetarium and Star Projector review, we feel that it deserves a spot in this buying guide as a great STEM toy that will captivate kids ages six and up, and, in our opinion, spark their interest in all things space-related.Children in particular need a sleep aid and what better way to lull a child to sleep but with soothing and relaxing starry skies and twinkly lights. Using a patented photographic process similar to microfiche, the Homestar Flux uses analog removable discs with very high resolution, simultaneously showing as many as a million distinct stars. The product was designed in conjunction with Japanese astronomer/engineer Takayuki Ohira(TED Talk), the inventor of the Megastar, a professional laser-based planetarium projector that can show the most stars in the world. Sega (via its Sivesco subsidiary) has been in the home planetarium business since 2006. There are also third parties that also make discs for the unit besides Sega, such as Miller Engineering.

What it projects, along with its accuracy and clarity, is pivotal. These projectors should have adjustable features to increase these settings, such as angle rotation, time motion. The only downside with the Atmosphere Smart Galaxy Projector is that the nebulas and stars aren't scientifically accurate. Still, we enjoyed the experience so much that we didn't feel short-changed. We were especially happy with the option to adjust both the brightness and the projection speed, which makes the device great for setting a calm environment or an energetic party scene. Unlike some other models, we found it to be near silent in its operation, which is great if you're using it to get to sleep or whilst watching a film.

Why it made the cut: With 10 light displays to choose from, smart app control, voice control with Alexa and Google, and other smart features, this star projector has a lot to offer. One of the unique star designs you can find is offered by the Parrot Uncle projector. There is the ability to make thousands upon thousands of stars and cloud patterns including laser and other wonderful technology. Brainstorm Toys Deep Space Home Planetarium Star ProjectorA neat little STEM toy with multiple functions. Kids between 6 and 10 will love to learn more about space with this hands-on device.★★★½Like the Atmosphere Smart Galaxy Projector, you won't get scientific accuracy, but you'll get a fantastic 'insomnia-busting' experience that allows your children (or yourself) to sleep better at night. Optical discs included, a Northern Hemisphere night sky and a Northern Hemisphere night sky with constellations, with over 60,000 stars projected simultaneously Rotating optical nebula projection with multi-colored lights: This is a static, rotating image of a nebula star formation illuminated with a range of colors that can be set to progress through pre-configured and user-definable color "scenes." The nebula projection can be combined with the green laser star field, or each can be chosen individually.
