About this deal

My niece really loved this book. She hated when we had to stop reading to go out. And she begged me to start again when we got home. Also we didn't have time to finish it the first day. When she came over the next day she immediately wanted to read it. She was sad when it ended and was happy to see that there would be a book two in the series.

Fairy Mom and Me by Sophie Kinsella | Goodreads Fairy Mom and Me by Sophie Kinsella | Goodreads

Ella's mom was really sweet, but in many ways she was a hot mess. She was really bad at doing magic. So everything she tries to do ends up all wonky.

I will try everything Sophie Kinsella writes at least once... I've not always been super enthusiastic (some of the most recent Shopaholic books were painful) but I've had awesome surprises ( Finding Audrey is perfection) so when I've heard she had written a middle grade book about fairies of all things, I was very excited! In 2014 she published a Young Adult novel Finding Audrey about a teenage girl with social anxiety and her madcap family, and in January 2018, Sophie published her first illustrated book for young readers about the charming adventures of a mother-daughter fairy duo, Mummy Fairy and Me (also published as Fairy Mom and Me). Ella's family have a big secret . . . her mummy is a fairy! She can do amazing spells with her computawand to make delicious cupcakes, create the perfect birthday party and cause chaos at the supermarket. But sometimes the spells go a bit wrong and that's when Ella comes to the rescue!

Sophie Kinsella has sold over 40 million copies of her books in more than 60 countries, and she has been translated into over 40 languages. But Mummy took no notice. ‘Here we are,’ she said. ‘I knew I’d find something! A spell to make you feel cooler. That’s exactly what I need.’ She got out of bed, stamped her feet three times, clapped her hands, wiggled her bottom and said, ‘Marshmallow’ . . . and POOF! she was a fairy. After lunch I went to see how Mummy was feeling. She was sitting up in bed all alone in her nightie, drinking lemon squash and reading her Spell Book.

Ella's family has a BIG secret - her mummy is a fairy! But sometimes Mummy Fairy's magic goes wrong, and then it's up to Ella to help. In this book of enchanting adventures, Mummy Fairy and Ella decorate the kitchen with magic colouring pencils, catch a robber on Ella's school trip - and swim with real mermaids! The relationship between the mother and the daughter drew me in, as it was built on friendship and understanding. This is a story about Ella who has a mummy fairy, in fact, all of the female members of the family are fairies, including Ella—well, one day, when she is grown up. Ella loves the idea of magic because it makes life easier, but easier doesn't mean better. Ella learns that sometimes it's much better when you do something with your hard work!

We both had such fun reading this book about a very modern fairy and her fairy-in-training daughter. We interacted with the storyline, joined in with the spells and laughed at the situations Mummy got them all into. We were both quite sad to get to the end but we have been cheered up considerably by the news that Mummy Fairy will return later on in the year.My niece is 8 years old and the book was perfect for her because we would take turns reading the book.
