About this deal

It’s supposed to be a big deal to get chosen for the children’s prayer at my church, especially on Christmas Eve. I guess you could say it was an honor. But my mind was like mush that night, and I was wishing they’d tapped someone else. Anyhow, Ali Cross, which I'm guessing is the first installment in a brand-new series, doesn't waste a moment of time setting up the disappearance plot. Now if you have read any of the Alex Cross novels, then you would have already met Ali, who has made appearances in those novels. In this mystery, the character takes center stage, kinda like a modern day Hardy Boys story. James Patterson delivers an appealing hero, engaging characters, plenty of action, and a raft of book recommendations in this series debut featuring the young son of his noted detective Alex Cross. A master storyteller who's determined to make more kids like reading, he's off to a promising start as middle-schooler Ali Cross matches wits with online gamers and real-life criminals in his quest to find and save his missing friend. I hadn’t known him that long—only since the beginning of middle school. But we got to be friends right away. I saw him in the cafeteria one day, eating by himself and working on a pretty cool drawing. I mentioned something about it, and that’s when I found out he was a total Outpost fan, like me. Ever since then, we’d been gaming together, he’d come over to watch movies, and that kind of thing. But he never talked about himself much, and I never really asked. Now I was thinking maybe I should have. Ali Cross has always looked up to his father, former detective and FBI agent Alex Cross. While solving some of the nation's most challenging crimes, his father always kept his head and did the right thing. Can Ali have the same strength and resolve?

Ali’s desire to become a much respected detective like his father (Alex Cross) still burns brightly inside him. His friend Gabe has developed an app that feeds into local police radio, sending texts and notifications to Ali at all times, day and night. This allows Ali to follow his passion as he and Gabe observe crimes in progress.I know this is usually a prayer for kids everywhere, but if it’s okay, I’d like to pray for just one kid tonight,” I said. “A lot of you know Gabriel Qualls. He’s in my grade at Washington Latin. He doesn’t really come to church, but the point is, he’s been missing for three days.” Ali's detective work leads to his being held prisoner by a burglar who twists his arm and punches him. Ali's father, a famous detective, is under threat of prison and disgrace, and the whole family's under stress, because he's accused (falsely) of violence against the father of a murder suspect. Meanwhile, the man's in a coma and feelings run high. Ali sometimes loses control of his temper and punches his tormentor, for which he gets consequences (the tormentor, not so much). A kid has a violent father who threatens him, forces him to commit burglary, and assaults women (his wife and a cop) during the story. Guns are stolen in the course of a robbery and then returned. Ali is smart, tenacious, and loyal. He doesn't always do what he's told (like when he sneaks out at night to save a friend, or gets on his PS4 when he's grounded, also to save a friend) but accepts the consequences when it catches up with him. There's a notably high trust level between Ali, his siblings, and their parents, and his father in particular is notable for being kind and positive even when it's a real struggle. Ali's friends are also very loyal -- and don't hesitate to let him know when he's made the wrong choice (or even the right one that still has bad repercussions). One kid commits burglaries because his father and brother threaten him.

James Patterson – Books – Ali Cross

Ali Cross is the new series for readers 9+ by James Patterson, one of the world’s most popular authors. James Patterson expands the Alex Cross legacy in his new series, featuring Alex's son, Ali. This book is the first book in the series and it is such a welcome change. Ali is aspiring to be a detective like his dad, Alex Cross so you not only get the son's (Ali's) point of view, but the father's (Alex's) point of view as well. This was my first time reading a James Patterson novel and I really enjoyed it. Although I've never read any his Alex Cross novels, I thought writing a middle-grade mystery novel about Alex's son, Ali Cross, was such a fantastic idea. I'm definitely going to be adding some of the Alex Cross novels to my TBR. Una trama ágil y llena de acción con la dosis de misterio justa y capítulos cortos que hacen la lectura todavía más adictiva.
