About this deal

Dad's Off Fighting in the War: The Kaul siblings never knew their father, who died on a Suicide Mission when they were little kids. I’m gratified and impressed by the gangster fantasy series I’ve read this year; Priest of Lies by Peter McLean is included in one of my favorite reads of the year so far, and now Jade War joins the list as well. Jade War is urban epic fantasy at its best, and Lee has cemented The Green Bone Saga as one of my favorite ongoing series with a groundbreaking impact. Do not miss reading this incredible book and series at all costs. The No Peak Clan awaits your enlistment in the Jade War. If you haven’t read Jade City, what are you waiting for? On my honor, my life, and my jade, this is a magnificent example of urban high fantasy of the highest tier. The clan is my blood, and the Pillar is its master; let the gods recognize me as a clan loyalist who has stamped Jade War as one of the best books published in 2019.

Cruel Mercy: The ultimate fate of Ayt Madashi. Niko's first decision as Pillar is that she will live out the remainder of her life in exile, powerless and without jade, to be remembered by history only as a tyrant who betrayed everything it meant to be a Green Bone, while other people accomplish her dreams of a united Kekon without her. Heroic RRoD: After the attempt on his life, Lan falls victim to a combination of jade overload and an overdose of shine, which causes him to fall into the river and drown. Sufficiently Analyzed Magic: Through sheer stubbornness and scientific prowess the Espenians have managed to develop a drug called SN1, which allows anyone to safely wield the powers that jade grants. Even the Kekonese use it to alleviate jade-related issues. An Arm and a Leg: Gont cripples one of No Peak's Fists, Eiten, by cutting off his arms, and uses him to send an ultimatum to Hilo.Research & Innovation Navigation link in category Research & Innovation. Jade City by Fonda Lee is the first book in the Green Bone saga. It’s been hailed as ‘Godfather-esque’, with a healthy mix of Asian inspired fantasy and Kung Fu. Well, hello! You have my interest, and yes I think I need this book in my life now! I’m so ecstatic to say that the book lived up to this description, as all these elements shone through beautifully in the narrative. You Killed My Father: Mudt Kal's motive for wanting jade - so that he can take revenge on Maik Tar for killing his father. There’s an awful lot going on in Jade War though, and the second half of this book in particular is excellent. It’s a pity then that the first half falters as much as it does. There are a litany of time jumps, big exposition dumps and the title itself is a little deceptive on reflection, especially those expecting a genuine war – because you won’t get that here!

Jade McGlynn is a Leverhulme EC Researcher in the War Studies department at King’s College London. She holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford, where she previously worked as a Lecturer in Russian. She is a frequent contributor to international media, including BBC, CNN, DW, Foreign Policy, The Times, The Telegraph and The Spectator. The Many Nations War is a global conflict analogue to WWII, in which the previous generation of Green Bones are all veterans of that war and shaped many of their attitudes.

The clan was not just people and jade and money. It was an idea, a legacy that connected the pats with the present and the future. The family’s strength was a promise.” Technical Pacifist: By the time of Jade Legacy, Anden has sworn off personally using violence for good, and staunchly insists on only wearing Jade when acting as a physician. He does not, however, have any qualms about facilitating violence in other ways, such arranging to have someone else wipe a prominent Kespenian gangster and his entire gang off the map to end the trouble they're causing the Kauls and their allies. Mercy Kill: After Maro confesses his role in the car bombing, Shae executes him via Channeling, because she knows that Hilo and Tar won't be merciful to him after Kehn's death.

Top 100 Fantasy Books Of All Time

For a little extra something: These books are one of the farthest things from a romance book there is but the romance sub plots are so well-written that if Fonda Lee comes out with a romance novel I’d read it to be honest.

Screw Politeness, I'm a Senior!: Kaul Sen, who has no problem insulting his grandchildren about their failings, and even blames an attempt on Hilo's life on Hilo himself. The other Kauls suspect that this is because his mind is going, making it a case of Scatterbrained Senior. King's Health Partners Navigation link in category Research & Innovation. Press escape key to return to main menu Fantastic Racism: The Kekonse can be pretty racist towards anyone who isn't Kekonese. They treat the Abukei as second class citizens and despise foreigners for their inability to properly wield jade. Now, the war is over and a new generation of Kauls vies for control of Kekon's bustling capital city. They care about nothing but protecting their own, cornering the jade market, and defending the districts under their protection. Ancient tradition has little place in this rapidly changing nation.
