The series first began when publisher HarperCollins asked Victoria Holmes to write a fantasy series about feral cats. Holmes was initially not enthusiastic, since she "couldn't imagine coming up with enough ideas." She worked with the concept, however, expanding the storyline with elements of war, politics, revenge, doomed love, and religious conflict. [1] Although the original plan was for a stand-alone novel, enough material was created for several books, and the publisher decided on a six-volume series. [1] The first volume, Into the Wild, was written by Kate Cary under the pseudonym "Erin Hunter" and was completed in about three months. [2] Holmes then began to work behind the scenes, editing and supervising details. [3] Cherith Baldry joined the team to write the third book, Forest of Secrets. Later, after she wrote the first Warriors field guide, Tui Sutherland became the fourth author to use the pseudonym Erin Hunter. [4] Warriors (also known as Warrior Cats) is a series of novels based on the adventures and drama of multiple Clans of feral cats. The series is primarily set in fictional forests. Published by HarperCollins, the series is written by authors Kate Cary and Cherith Baldry, as well as others, under the collective pseudonym Erin Hunter. The concept and plot of the pilot series were developed by series editor, Victoria Holmes.Warriors". sonda.it (in Italian). Archived from the original on 7 April 2011 . Retrieved 25 April 2011. He is restless and uncomfortable with being related to Firestar, feeling pressured to live up to the great leader. Leader of ShadowClan after Rowanclaw. He was named after former ShadowClan leader Tigerstar. His mate is Dovewing, and their children are Shadowsight, Lightleap, and Pouncestep.

As the series progresses, new characters are introduced, and new conflicts arise. The ThunderClan and their allies must face off against rival clans, dangerous creatures, and even their own internal struggles. Meanwhile, Firepaw grows into a skilled warrior and eventually becomes a leader, guiding his clan through numerous challenges and crises. In the Warriors universe, the characters in the five warrior Clans (ThunderClan, RiverClan, WindClan, ShadowClan, and SkyClan) have names composed of two parts. Each cat's name has a prefix (Blue, Bramble, Tall, etc.) which generally stays constant throughout their life. The name's suffix varies through the character's lifespan and position within the Clan, with the bestowing of the new name being a component of the ceremonies marking these role changes. As a kitten, the character's name ends with "-kit" (Bluekit, Bramblekit, Tallkit, etc.). Upon becoming an apprentice (a warrior or medicine cat in training), "-paw" replaces "-kit" at the end of the character's name (Bluepaw, Bramblepaw, Tallpaw, etc.). When the character completes their apprenticeship and is promoted to a full warrior or medicine cat, the suffix to their name is then changed to one chosen by the Clan leader or medicine cat (Bluefur, Brambleclaw, Talltail, etc.). If a cat becomes a Clan leader, they are granted the suffix "-star" at the end of their name (Bluestar, Bramblestar, Tallstar, etc.). If a leader commits a crime, they may be deemed unworthy of their name, stripped of the "-star" suffix, and return to using their warrior name. A cat may also have their name changed in a special ceremony. a b c "Transcript of Erin Hunter Chat #1". Wands and Worlds. Archived from the original on 4 March 2008 . The Warriors universe centers around a large group of feral cats who initially reside in a forest, and later, around a lake. The cats are split into five groups called Clans: ThunderClan, WindClan, RiverClan, ShadowClan, and SkyClan (the latter of whom was a late addition to the series). Each Clan has adapted to its own terrain. Relationships between different Clans are usually tense and they often come into conflict with one another. However, the Clans also sometimes show concern for each other; the idea of one Clan being destroyed usually causes deep distress and prompts urgent action on behalf of all Clans. The Clans have a unique naming and hierarchy system, in that their names are generally determined by their rank in the Clan. The working title of The New Prophecy series was Warriors: The Next Generation, a nod to Star Trek: The Next Generation.
