About this deal

Whether you’re a seasoned enthusiast or just dipping your toes into this world, I invite you to join me as we explore the fascinating realm of these legendary spirits.

This is the juice that made me aware Mezcal was even a thing, I shot tons and tons of this stuff starting around 1994/95. Many fond memories of getting absolutely hammered with good friends and having great times but it tastes nothing like the quality Mezcals we all enjoy today. The bus from Oaxaca to Monte Albán leaves every hour on the weekdays, and every half an hour on the weekends Why is it better to visit Monte Albán without a tour a b c d e f g h i Marcus, Joyce; Flannery, Kent V. (1996). Zapotec Civilization: How Urban Society Evolved in Mexico's Oaxaca Valley. London: Thames and Hudson. ISBN 0-500-05078-3. La Penca Con Gusano – which translates to “La Penca with a Worm” – is a mezcal that truly wears its agave worm on its sleeve. In fact, some bottles of La Penca can come with two worms inside them.

Winter, Marcus C. (13 Dec 1974). "Residential patterns at Monte Alban, Oaxaca, Mexico". Science. 186 (4168): 981–987. doi: 10.1126/science.186.4168.981. PMID 17843045. S2CID 30437023 . Retrieved 28 July 2022. The investigation of the periods preceding Monte Albán's founding was a major focus in the late 1960s of the Prehistory and Human Ecology Project started by Kent Flannery of the University of Michigan. Over the following two decades, this project documented the development of socio-political complexity in the valley from the earliest Archaic period (c. 8000–2000 BCE) to the Rosario phase (700–500 BCE) immediately preceding Monte Albán. It set the stage for an understanding of the latter's founding and developmental trajectory. In this context, among the major accomplishments of Flannery's work in Oaxaca are his extensive excavations at the important formative center of San José Mogote in the Etla branch of the valley, a project co-directed with Joyce Marcus of the University of Michigan. [4] [5] These very same breeds of agave worms are known to feed on peyote cactus, from which the psychedelic drug mescaline is refined. I discovered during my research that tequila does not traditionally have a worm in it, though mescal does. Admittedly it’s commonly called the tequila worm, but that is all it has in common with tequila. If you insist on drinking it out of curiosity or for a prank, do it in shots finishing it as fast as you can.

There are two main myths about how the worm got into the bottle. The first is that it was put in the bottle of mezcal as a marketing ploy, and it worked! Either way, agave worms have established themselves as a mainstay in the mezcal industry. 4 Mezcals With the Iconic Maguey Worm Odd to see an agave worm featured as an essential part of the experience… but it’s been there since forever. Sammy, is this what you sang about???
