Some thermostats have an E connector. The E wire turns your emergency heat on or off. Emergency heat is usually used when it’s too cold outside for your regular heater to keep your home warm. Always take a picture of your current thermostat’s wires before you remove it from the wall and install a Nest thermostat. This picture will be an essential reference to identifywires and correctly install a Nest thermostat. Some systems have control panels or equipment interface modules that require a C wire to be compatible with Nest thermostats. Below isa list of some known panels that require a C wire.
