To me, this is important because it's a potential safety issue if you ever need to use the radio in an emergency, and an annoyance if you ever want to use the radio around other people who are transmitting on theirs, or anywhere near a radio mast. But since most amateur radio traffic is not mission critical, this is not a deal breaker for many hams.

If you mess with hams they are liable to try DF and report you or will just blank you if you do get the licence.
