About this deal

A single UniFi device can perfectly be managed from your phone as a standalone device. But when you have multiple access points for example, then it’s easier to use an UniFi Controller to manage your network. But what are your options?

To help you choose I have created a simple overview with the options and wanted features/use cases. For the Dream Machine, we will have a couple of options to choose from, but in a basis, they all offer the same features. PoE interfaces (4) PoE IEEE 802.3af (pair A 1, 2+; 3, 6-)(4) PoE+ IEEE 802.3at (pair A 1, 2+; 3, 6-)(4) PoE++ IEEE 802.3bt(pair A 1, 2+; 3, 6-) (pair B 4, 5+; 7, 8-)The Dream Wall is wall-mounted UniFi OS Console that serves as a standalone, space-saving deployment hosting solution. Each of these feature-rich, next-gen consoles are equipped with a variety of multi-gigabit WAN/LAN ports to support high-speed connectivity, along with a wealth of GbE RJ45 ports that deliver PoE, PoE+, and PoE++ output. Dual-band WiFi radio with a 2.7 Gbps aggregate throughput rate (2.4 GHz: 300 Mbps / 5 GHz: 2.4 Gbps) Expansion slot Micro SD memory card* (optional) *Requires a memory card with at least 128GB of storage. The UniFi Dream Machines are really the flagship devices in the UniFi product line. They are the all-in-one devices that combine the UniFi Gateway, Cloudkey, NVR, and network switch in one device. The Dream Wall and Dream Router also have a built-in access point which makes them a true all-in-one device. To install the UniFi Controller on your computer, you can follow this guide. It will explain the installation steps and give you some tips on optimizing your network. UniFi Cloud Key

The Dream Wall and Dream Wall Pro are all in one UniFi OS Consoles, like the existing UDR, UDM, UDM Pro and UDM SE. However here there are far more PoE options, larger PoE budgets, integrated WiFi access points, hard drive bays and more. It is like a UDM but taken to a new extreme level. Now, Ubiquiti says this would be a good product for a business environment, which it might be but we can see it being more useful, and far more sleek and stylish in a home setting – it would sit somewhere under the stairs, or your hallway and take care of all the networking needs for the home. There is also a downside to a hosted controller, you can only run the UniFi network application in it. Just like when you installed the controller locally, you can’t use UniFi Protect or any of the other UniFi Apps.

If you don’t want to install your own controller, don’t want to use the routing and firewall features, and only have a small network, then the UniFi Cloud Key G2 Plus is the best option. This Cloud Key comes with the UniFi Controller pre-installed and also allows you to manage your UniFi Protect devices. src: ui.com Like the UDM Pro and UDM SE, the UDW can host UniFi Network, UniFi Protect, UID, UniFi Connect, UniFi Talk and UniFi Access. On the front is a small 4.7-inch touchscreen, which can be used for management and viewing stats. You can install your own controller in the cloud, I have written a step-by-step guide for it that you can follow. But you can also go for one of the managed solutions that are available online. Runnign your own controler maybe less expensive, but there are some huge advantages when choosing a managed solution: At the moment of writing, there are 4 Dream Machines, or actually UniFi Gateway Consoles, to choose from: Pictured in our header image is the Dream Wall Pro with the larger screen. The standard UDW has a 1.3-inch LCM colour touchscreen, the same we are used to from the other UDM devices. The standard UDW also has dual power supplies which are hot swappable and are 550W each. The UDW Pro also has hard drive bays for UniFi Protect, but the UDW has an built in 128GB SSD and like the UDR, it can be expanded using an SD card. Video

The Cloud Key is pretty small, it only measures 131mm x 133mm (5.2 x 5.3″) and can be powered by Power over Ethernet or with a USB C cable. It comes with a 1TB hard drive that you can use to store your UniFi Protect recording. Compared to the Dream Machine, it comes with an integrated WiFi 6 Access point, a pre-installed 512 GB MicroSD Card (next to the existing 128 GB SSD, 16 GbE network ports, a 10G SFP+ port, and a redundant power supply. Setting up the UniFi Cloud Key is easily done with the UniFi app. The Cloud Key can make a Bluetooth connection to your mobile phone for instant setup. After the setup, you can manage your Cloud Key from anywhere in the world through unifi.ui.com. UniFi Dream Machine For large networks are the UDM Pro and Dream Wall great options. Also make sure that you take a look at the hosted solution. Some offer even a free version, which can be great if you only have a couple of devices. Walls as dream images are generally considered obstacles and sources of isolation or confinement. Some people are emotionally guarded and feel unable to express themselves freely. If you are such a person, this dream symbol might be pointing to the walls that you have built around yourself. Additionally, if you are experiencing challenges and seemingly impenetrable difficulties in daily life, the wall in your dream may be a reflection of those factors. Consider your current situation and attempt to identify the source of the walls in your dream. Climbing the wall suggests that you are becoming prepared or are able to overcome difficulties and/or challenges. In this dream you may have

So far, Ubiquiti has only released details about the standard UDW. It is wall mountable, has an integrated dual-band access point which supports 802.11ax. Like the UDM Pro and UDM SE, we have dual WAN with a 2.5GbE RJ45 and a 10G SFP+. There is an integrated switch too, with 5 standard non-PoE ports and then 12 PoE ports, four of which are 802.3af, another four are 802.3af/at and then another four are 802.3bt. This is very flexible and allows this one device to power many UniFi OS applications and devices. As mentioned in the beginning, there are a couple of options when it comes to selecting your UniFi Controller. Which controller is best for your environment depends on your use case.
