Compared to conventional varnish, TotalBoat Halcyon Water-Based Varnishes provide a fast application, faster drying times, and the fastest, easiest cleanup so you can finish varnishing your brightwork in a matter of hours. No more days and sometimes weeks of stripping off old varnish, coating, waiting hours for it to dry, sanding, recoating, more waiting, and more sanding until the gloss or satin finish is truly finished. Depending on the type you apply, the cured color can be clear (polyurethane varnish) all the way to a rich amber (spar varnish – the color is derived from the oil it contains). You can even tint it to create your own custom color, or stain the wood beforehand to achieve a certain tone.

It’s important to keep as much dust as possible out of your work area while varnishing. Vacuum the work area first, then use a water-filled spray bottle to spray water on the floor or ground to keep the dust down.It’s also a good idea to use a marine-grade finish on the exterior surfaces of your home or on outdoor wood furniture – since it stands up to the elements at sea, it’ll be more than able to handle the weather outside your front door. If you’re applying it to interior surfaces, such as cabinets and furniture, you don’t need to pay more for expensive drying oils, UV additives, and superior flexibility. Multiple coats of Halcyon Varnish provide the preferred, rich amber tone of a classic, marine spar varnish. Varnish seals and protects wood, and makes it look good. It forms a protective film that prevents moisture, rot, and scratches from damaging wood, while enhancing the depth and beauty of the wood grain. For outdoor use, it also contains UV inhibitors to protect the finish – and the wood itself – from the sun’s punishing rays. Brush, roll and tip, or spray. For brushing, use a tapered polyester brush; for rolling, use a high-density foam roller cover. If you want the fastest cure and shortest pot life, or if you’re working in cooler temperatures, use the High Performance Fast Hardener. For most common applications, use the High Performance Medium Hardener. If you’re working in warm conditions, or you need a longer working time, use the High Performance Slow Hardener. Likewise if you’re new to using epoxy resin, you may find the extended pot life and cure time helpful. All of its 'lows' are its high points
