About this deal

Anita Lambert (she/her) is a Pelvic Health and Orthopaedic Physiotherapist with a focus on prenatal and postpartum care as well as a Certified Pilates Instructor and Certified in Acupuncture / Dry Needling. She graduated from McMaster University with an Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology and a Masters of Science in Physiotherapy. Anita is one of the select few physiotherapists in Canada to receive advanced training in labour support, which blends orthopaedic physiotherapy expertise with birth doula support. What chance does a baby born to a parent with hEDS/HSD have of inheriting the condition themselves, and how might such newborns be assessed at birth? Area of focus: Are you looking for one book that covers everything from conception to childbirth, or are you happy to read a book focused on a specific area such as nutrition, breastfeeding or labour?

There can be a misconception that hypnobirthing can guarantee a natural labour (if that's your preference), but that's not the case Before joining the content team at Mumsnet, Jenny worked as a journalist for newspapers, radio, TV and b2b trades magazines for over a decade. She is also a bestselling sci-fi author (writing as J M Briscoe) and parenting blogger. To learn more about how to get involved as a volunteer, please see the 'How can I volunteer for BBCS' section. Siobhan Miller is an expert hypnobirthing teacher and founder of The Positive Birth Company. In this book, she aims to make hypnobirthing more accessible for every mum and every kind of birth, whether at home or in the hospital. You'll also find this book topping our guide to the best hynobirthing book as recommended by Mumsnet users. All meetings take place in public places or at appropriate groups but we are also able to offer a small number of home visits if that is what is best for the mother. How can I become a volunteer in community support?

Why is community support important?

In conclusion, this article has presented a clinical update on caring for those childbearing with hEDS/HSD throughout the perinatal period, where management remains complex. Yet, cases should no longer be considered rare, only rarely diagnosed. The latest insights presented here may crucially explain the origins of some precipitate labours and births seen in practice along with other outcomes. They may also be used to galvanise change in perinatal services, whereby educational resources, policies, practices and guidelines are updated to reflect a new reality in which the needs of those childbearing with hEDS/HSD (approximately 1 in 20) are effectively accommodated. Such updates may also ensure that staff are better prepared to deliver the high-quality and safe care they aspire to, thus also further contributing to professional wellbeing overall. Key points Robin was born in Uruguay to migrant parents. Spanish was his first language, French his second and Romanian his third language before coming to Australia when he was 10 years old.

Robin speaks at international conferences, on a range of themes presented in his books. He conducts international trainings for psychotherapists, and for parents and offers private psychotherapy/counselling/coaching sessions. Those left with chronic pelvic girdle pain (PGP) are at a significantly increased risk of suffering from anxiety and depression ( Siqueira-Campos et al, 2019). The management of this can be further complicated by emotional and behavioural responses to PGP ( Alappattu and Bishop, 2011), and fear avoidance beliefs, which may lead to worsening levels of pain tolerance ( Chang et al, 2007; Quartana et al, 2009; Alappattu and Bishop, 2011; Rashidi Fakari et al, 2018). Accordingly, multidisciplinary working with clinical psychology, psychiatry, pain management, physiotherapy, and rheumatology teams in line with summarised recommendations may be useful in the management of PGP ( Vleeming et al, 2008; Ali et al, 2020). Where PGP persists, last-line treatments may include intra-pelvic corticosteroid injection treatments ( Lindgren, 2020), and joint fusion ( Vleeming et al, 2008). Those childbearing with hEDS/HSD may experience the premature birth of their babies ( Hurst et al, 2014; Volkov et al, 2018; Nicholls-Dempsey et al, 2019; Turan et al, 2020). Additionally, other authors have reported how births may be affected by abnormal fetal presentation ( Lind and Wallenburg, 2002; Karthikeyan and Venkat-Raman, 2018). This may not be surprising when we consider that tissues which typically support babies to remain in an optimal position in preparation for birth may be looser in those with hEDS/HSD. Furthermore, as those childbearing with hEDS/HSD report episodes of both physical and psychological birth trauma ( Pezaro et al, 2020), it will be important to prevent, prepare for and anticipate such episodes as well as provide appropriate and effective parental support.

10. Best book for new mums: Motherhood Your Way: How to Worry Less and Enjoy More in Your Baby's First Year

I have Your No Guilt Pregnancy Plan by Rebecca Schiller, which is great if you want something that won't panic you and tells you what your rights are in pregnancy, what you're entitled to, etc. It also has some lovely real-life stories from women with both negative and extremely positive experiences, which I found reassuring."(Recommended by Mumsnet user Miller2021) The BBCS Programme in Peterborough, Fenland and East Cambridgeshire is funded by Peterborough City Council and the Evelyn Trust. So far he has written and published; 'Heart to Heart Parenting', 'Parenting for a Peaceful World', and a chapter in a book called 'Social Ecology, Applying Ecological Understanding to our Lives and our Planet'.
