About this deal

This short telephoto prime lens is comprised of 14 elements in 12 groups and features a rounded 9 blade diaphragm which creates an attractive blur to the out of focus areas of the image. It has a Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) for smooth, quiet and accurate autofocusing, Super Multi-Layer Coating to reduce flare and ghosting, a minimum focusing distance of 85cm / 33.5in and a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:8.5. I own the Canon 85 f1.2 but the Sony, Sigma and old Sony a mount stf lens (and likely the forthcoming stf) are all very different and all excellent. One last point that we discovered during these tests. One of these lenses is not a true 85mm. Basically, the Sigma is visibly longer in reach than the Sony, this isn’t necessarily a pro or a con just something to keep in mind. Minimum focus distance (sharpness close up)

Our comparison to the Sony f/1.8 seems difficult because there is no clear winner overall. At least not when you consider the big difference in price between the two lenses (as the Sigma cost twice what you will be paying for the Sony at the time of writing this review). Yes, if you use the Metabones IV ;) like i use every of my EF-Lenses on A72 - everytime perfect focus. That was the reason why i sold my 6D... All in all, we can tell that it’s not quite Sony GMaster status in terms of the physical “indestructibility”, however, it’s definitely built to stand the test of time and be a heavy-duty workhorse for many years to come. The Sony center sharpness – top left (f/1.8), top right (f/2.8), bottom, left (f/4), bottom right (f/8)The Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG HSM for Sony E-Mount is one of the first in a new range of native Sigma lenses dedicated to Sony's full-frame range of mirrorless cameras.

With many applications in aerospace and other industries, glass ceramics is an extremely tough type of crystallized glass that serves as the foundation for Clear Glass Ceramics. While featuring the high transmittance required of optical devices, this advanced new material combines greater hardness than chemically strengthened glass and greater flexibility than sapphire crystal glass. These qualities make Clear Glass Ceramics the ideal material for protective lens filters. The Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG HSM Art (left) and Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art (right). The new lens is 500g lighter than Sigma’s previous version A release button has to be used to release the hood from the lens. Note the hoods rubberised texture towards the rear that lets you get a good grip of it when your hands are wetMy biggest issue is that the thing doesn’t even work usably with the Sigma 18–35 f1.8. With the camera in AF-S, the lens frequently and randomly goes completely out of focus without any action on the user’s part. This is totally unacceptable as most photographers are not going to want the focus thrown completely off on a whim by the adapter."
