About this deal

I trifle with it if I'm not in a hurry and drink it when I am, otherwise I never touch the stuff unless I am thirsty. There are only two types of blends produced, both pinot noir-dominated: the non-vintage Special Cuvée is the expression of the Bollinger house style, while the vintage-dated Grande Année, produced only in exceptional years, is designed to express the inherent character of the vintage. Amazingly deliciously perfect bubbles, those famous words by the Queen of chic, Coco Chanel “I only drink Champagne on two occasions, when I am in love and when I am not". The name of Bollinger’s emblematic champagne, with its English spelling, encapsulates its entire history.

pinot noir, 25%chardonnay, 15% meunier sourced from more than 300 crus, including 85% grandsand premiers crus, fermented in old oak barrels. Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay, 15% Meunier sourced from more than 300 crus, including 85% grands and premiers crus; 15% fermented in old oak barrels. It is cellar aged for twice as long as required by appellation regulations with only a moderately dosage or between 7 and 8 grams per litre, to keep it as taught and crisp as possible. We tasted the results of some exciting trials they are conducting with the rarer grape varieties Arbane, Petit Meslier and Pinot Gris. The House of Champagne Bollinger was founded in 1829 in the village of Ay, in the heart of the Champagne region.

Champagne Bollinger was established in 1829 by Jacques Bollinger and to this day is still family owned and based in the town of Aÿ.

He is custodian of the five labyrinthine kilometres of cellars that run under Aÿ, permeated by the scent of fermented fruit, old wood and earth. Pinot Noir accounts for nearly 40% of the plantings in Champagne and lies at the heart of most blends - it gives Champagne its body, structure, strength and grip. Beautiful aromatic complexity with ripe fruit and spicy aromas, hints of roasted apples, apple compote and peaches. I have savored the wines throughout my 40 years in my professional wine career, and the wine has always performed well.In the nose, the cuvée reminds of sun-kissed and sweet apricots, spreads notes of nuts, honey, apple and grapefruit.

The Cellarmaster aims to express the full array of aromas through the barrel ageing of several crus. Champagne Bollinger owns an impressive 178 hectares of vineyards, of which 85% are in Grand Cru and Premier Cru villages. The complexity and richness ofSpecial Cuvée is unparalleled among the entry non-vintage blends of everyChampagne house, short of ascending to the mesosphere of Krug. Bollinger produces classic, complex, Pinot-Noir dominated champagnes with the ability to age gracefully for many years. We tasted the Vins Clairs at the winery in Aÿ last month and the house are optimsitic - even drawing likeness to the magnificent 1988 vintage!

Consuming alcoholic beverages during pregnancy, even in small quantities, can have serious consequences on the child’s health.Nearly two hundred years later, Bollinger are one of the biggest names in the region and are famously the preferred champagne brand of fictional British Secret Service agent, James Bond. And if that wasn't luxurious enough, the wine is then aged for double the legal requirement, so expect nothing less than excellence in every sip. of vineyards in Champagne are planted with Chardonnay and it performs best on the Côtes des Blancs and on the chalk slopes south of Epernay. James Suckling: Looking the part with a keenly struck trade-off between freshness and complexity, there's plenty of pinot-derived red fruit on the nose, as well as biscuity, mellow, sweet spices and fragrance.
