About this deal

We welcome applications for MPhil/PhD study in human and physical geographies, and are particularly interested in projects that complement and extend existing strengths within and across our research groups.

Measurements are from recent imagery, generally supplemented with Russian 1:200,000 scale topographic mapping as well as Jerzy Wala, Orographical Sketch Map: Karakoram: Sheets 1 & 2, Swiss Foundation for Alpine Research, Zurich, 1990. India is situated north of the equator between 8°4' north (the mainland) to 37°6' north latitude and 68°7' east to 97°25' east longitude. [2] It is the seventh-largest country in the world, with a total area of 3,287,263 square kilometres (1,269,219sqmi). [3] [4] [5] India measures 3,214km (1,997mi) from north to south and 2,933km (1,822mi) from east to west. It has a land frontier of 15,200km (9,445mi) and a coastline of 7,516.6km (4,671mi). [1] We also offer a January start for some of our Foundation Year courses. Adopting a blended learning approach, the January start is particularly useful for students wishing to return to education following time out of studying, or who are seeking a flexible approach to their Foundation Year studies. Our January start is available across moOf 'ghati', 'bhaiyya' & 'yandu gundu': Mumbai has huge diversity in its pejoratives, First Post, 26 Feb 2019.

The Government Geography Profession will continue to be an inclusive and welcoming profession for all those in the public sector who consider themselves geographers, recognising that whilst a lot of our members clearly align to the Analysis Function, there will be a other geographers in wider roles across the public sector who the profession will continue to support. Our Leadership Shalowite, A.L., 1964. Shore and Sea Boundaries. Volume 2: Interpretation and Use of Coast and Geodetic Survey Data. Publication 10-1, U.S. Department of Commerce, Coast and Geodetic Survey.Geography is uniquely positioned between the physical and social sciences enabling geographers to provide broad-ranging perspectives on a range of key societal challenges. It explores the spatial interactions between human behaviours and society and the interrelationships between the environment and political, economic and social forces. The flexibility of our programme enables you to explore the full breadth and depth of this dynamic discipline. Depending on where your interests lie, you can focus on physical geography, human geography or a mixture of both. Our focus on climate change, global responsibility, sustainability, and the application of professional geographical skills to real-world situations will prepare you for a wide range of careers and for life as a responsible global citizen. Year one Essentially, a river erodes its way down through the landscape (vertical erosion) until it reaches base level (usually the sea but sometimes an inland lake). The long profile is often portrayed as a smooth concave shape although in reality there are sometimes sharp drops in gradient due to differential geology or rejuvenation (how a river responds to changes in base level caused by sea level change). The profile may exhibit a stepped profile where there are breaks in slope where waterfalls may be present. Flood risk at a coastal location can be quantified by taking into account the likelihood of flooding occuring and the severity of a breach or overtopping of sea defences. Your third year will provide you with the widest choice in optional modules. Areas of study may include health inequalities, animals and society and global environmental change. Fieldwork

Your studies will culminate with the opportunity to mould your degree to your career aspirations and interests. You will unleash your creativity and apply the techniques you have acquired throughout your studies by working on a final year geography project. Under the guidance of an experienced academic, you can choose your own topic or explore one of our research themes. Kraus, N.C., Larson, M., and Kriebel, D.L., 1991. Evaluation of beach erosion and accretion predictors. Proceedings of Coastal Sediments’ 91. American Society of Civil Engineers, pp. 572–587. Fieldwork opportunities are fully integrated into the curriculum to enable you to apply your theoretical knowledge to the real world. These practical experiences provide you with the opportunity to develop and refine the skills required for a career within industry. Early in year one you will undertake a field visit to Trentham Monkey Forest to investigate issues surrounding land use and tourism and start to develop your basic fieldwork skills. You will continue to practice key research skills in a series of one day field courses throughout the year. Year two features a trip to explore the ‘contested landscapes’ of the Lake District and in your final year there is the opportunity to further enhance your skills through authentic field research on an international field trip to the Alps. Learn from our campus - our own living laboratoryThe programme gives you the flexibility to shape your own research in an area of particular interest to you. Like other research degrees you will be required to work independently, but with the support and guidance of an appropriate supervisor. The Chambal, another tributary of the Ganges, via the Yamuna, originates from the Vindhya-Satpura watershed. The river flows eastward. Westward-flowing rivers from this watershed are the Narmada and Tapi, which drain into the Arabian Sea in Gujarat. The river network that flows from east to west constitutes 10% of the total outflow. Support and supervision The precise shape of a river valley is not just a function of energy and erosion. There are other factors which determine the shape and angle of the slopes which make up the valley sides.
