About this deal

I am rather pleased that she gives you a glimpse of the professional kitchen too, as it is quite different from that of a country house hotel. Andrew has been running the hotel for two years but has to go to France to sort out some legal things regarding his father. Undaunted, she has plans to travel to France and work on her already impressive skills to chase her dream of becoming a pastry chef. Meg finds herself attempting to make the hotel profitable again when she stands in for the chef after the previous one quit. v=1677516281","options":["Title"],"media":[{"alt":null,"id":27763094683803,"position":1,"preview_image":{"aspect_ratio":0.

You may recognise some familiar faces if you have read the earlier books, but this is a stand-alone story based around the delightful Nightingale Woods country house hotel. The hotel is charming, a place I’d love to stay at with its welcoming and homely feel and beautiful location. As someone whose son is a chef, I can tell you that Fforde does an excellent job of shining a light on quite how much work goes into the world of hospitality. The 1960s setting, and his ambivalent feelings towards his father, totally explains Justin's attitude to Meg and her mother, yet it is also quite clear to the reader fairly early on that Justin is also quite smitten by Meg and finds any excuse to visit the hotel. The owner has gone to France to try to settle his father's will, leaving her alone to manage the hotel.

One Enchanted evening is everything you need in a novel when the weather outside demands you snuggle under a blanket with a good book. She has reckoned without Justin, the son of the hotel owner, however, who seems determined to take over the running of the kitchen. A joy to read from start to finish, I was transported from the grey February skies of Sheffield to the summer sun of Dorset. Although this is a standalone novel I think personally I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the previous novel(s) with some of the same characters. Meg hasn't got much professional training, but what she does have is passion, ideas and empathy, which endear her to the staff and guests alike.Like with A Wedding in Provence (which was the previous Fforde book I read) this is set in the 60’s and you get whisked straight back to the time. This is definitely a good bit of escapism for the spring and would also make a perfect holiday read.

Fforde never disapoints' Weekly 'This is the perfect Mother's Day read' Take a Break 'A joy of a read from Katie Fforde' That's Life 'This enjoyable read will appeal to die-hard romantics' Heat Magazine ____________ Ever since she can remember, Meg has wanted to be a professional cook.It may not be reproduced in any way whatsoever without the prior consent of Waitrose Limited nor without due acknowledgement. Fortunately for Nightingale Woods, Meg arrives in the nick of time and recognises that the kind of charm this hotel offers is worth preserving, and she is not afraid to fight for its future. I thought some of the characters were lovely, such as the elderly and mysterious Ambrosine, and I even enjoyed the stereoptypes too, who I think were written a bit tongue-in-cheek. This can be a good thing if you are in a headspace where you want something light and easy, but for me, I wouldn't mind seeing the characters suffer a bit more and a bit longer if only to see their growth. I believe falling in love is the best thing in the world, and I want all my characters to experience it, and my readers to share their stories.
