About this deal

So, to slow your flashing down you have to make the wattage draw similar to how it was with the original indicators, and you can do this by fitting either a new indicator relay unit or with resistors. These resistors work by creating an additional current draw on the indicator circuit (they do this by effectively being small heaters) which, provided you choose the correct resistors, increase the current draw back up to where it was with the original less efficient bulbs fitted enabling the standard relay to work again. More importantly this conversion also enables you to fit an LED indicator relay as the indicator relay built into the Piaggio voltage regulator will not flash properly with LED indicators fitted.

These electronic relays will keep your flash rate constant and keep it standard even if the load on the circuit changes. The voltage regulator/ flasher relay can be located in different places depending on which moped you have. So you've finally decided to swap out those bulky OE indicators for some sleek new LED units; maybe because you want something brighter to keep you safe out on the road, or you want to make your bike look its age and not older. The blue/ black wire is the wire which runs directly to the indicator switch and then on to the indicator bulbs themselves.

On the Gilera Stalker used for this blog it is located behind the front fairing panel (behind the headlight). Please ensure you have a suitable LED relay fitted to your Caterham when upgrading to any type of LED light. As the difference in wattage between LED and standard indicators is generally quite large, it is recommended that you will need one resistors per indicator that you are changing.

You can now use LED indicators all round (or a combination of old and new) and replace your flasher relay cheaply and easily if it ever fails without having to renew the entire original voltage regulator/ flasher unit. I’m very impressed with the attention to detail, quality of the execution and thoroughness I can see in all aspects. It is accepted by you that Triumph Direct has no control over additional charges in relation to customs clearance. By adding resistors to the wiring you increase the wattage draw from the LED indicators to match what was there before, therefore your existing relay will continue to run as normal with a standard flash rate. Resistors get hot during operation, so wrapping them in tape can lead to resistor over heating or worse melting plastic parts around it.

Most Piaggio/ Gilera mopeds are fitted with an indicator relay which is built into the voltage regulator unit. Suitable for many other classic or modern 12v cars or applications with standard filament / incandescent bulbs or LEDs or a mix of filament / incandescent bulbs and LED. Because LED bulbs draw far less current than conventional bulbs this confuses the flasher relay which may then flash at the wrong speed or not at all.

Air Filters Everyone knows that bike's engine, in the process of its operation, burns not only gasoline but a mixture of. They look the same but have different components inside and the casing is made from an inferior plastic.

When it comes to upgrading your current indicators to an LED set, simply plugging in the new units isn't quite enough (although fitting them properly doesn’t require you to be a neuroscientist). A much easier option is to fit an LED compatible indicator flasher relay such as this onewhich instead of being current dependant operates on a timer circuit. Some people choose to fit load resistors to imitate the load of the incandescent (standard) bulbs that they have just removed.
