About this deal

Ellie and her husband now live at Holly Lake Ranch north of Tyler. Her husbandretired from the pastorate and is now Pastor Emeritus.

I guess an important preface is that I am an Ellie Taylor fan, and not just a fan but often accidentally the same person. Thinking and speaking in such similar cadence made this such a perfect read, everything made so much sense in my brain because it was explained just as I too would explain it. This is such a classic that you almost know the punchline before the setup is complete. But both Ellie and Sam don’t understand it because pizza wasn’t ever a part of their lives, while Joel and Henry probably just got even more hungry from hearing it. Maybe told in front of a different audience or with more context it would have gotten a bigger laugh but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. In this very funny book she writes candidly about her own personal experience exploring the decision to have a baby when she doesn't even like them, the importance of cheese during pregnancy, why she took hair straighteners to the labour ward, plus the apocalyptic newborn days, childcare, work and the inevitable impact on life and love and most importantly, her breasts.I should probably caveat this review by saying that I just didn’t find this book that funny. Sorry. There’s no doubt that there’s a wide audience for Taylor’s style of comedy, I’m just probably not it. So why read the book? Well, because I am mother to a 5 month old and am currently at the stage of craving anything that makes me feel ‘seen’. Strictly judge and ex-pro Anton du Beke and his wife Hannah share adorable six-year-old twins George and Henrietta. We have plenty of food related jokes to go through and if I’m being honest, this is the one that resonates with me the least. I’m not saying it’s a bad joke but I think when compared to some of the other culinary heavy hitters on this list, it can’t keep up. It comes right before the pivotal and consequential sniper sequence in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, so a better joke may have lifted the team spirits and maybe things could have turned out a lot better. Ellie Taylor's book is her reflections on deciding whether to become a mother and what happens when she and her husband finally decide to become parents. In her usual style, Ellie Taylor is funny, honest and insightful in her observations. She also wants to demystify some of the things around pregnancy, childbirth and parenthood and to open up a wider discussion. The answer is a' life time', which is how long I have been painting. A painting needs to be studied before it is finished. Many times I have noticed something that bothered me. I would say it is okay. It is okay. NO! I had to make the change. Another question often asked is how do you know when a painting is finished. The answer is when you do not have it any longer. My husband often asks me why I keep painting the same thing, and I tell him that if I ever get right I`ll stop. This is an absolutely amazing book, and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who is pregnant or just given birth. It is so, so funny and I related to it so much. "Minjury" is the best joke I've heard about Pelvic Girdle Pain 🤣 Loved it!! (The book, not Pelvic Girdle Pain!) My Child and Other Mistakes is a frank and funny account of comedian Ellie Taylor's journey from being a single woman to meeting her now-husband, pondering motherhood, trying to get pregnant, being pregnant, having her baby and then navigating the trials of newborn life and figuring out her new place in the world.I'm a big fan of Ellie Taylor - I think she's hilarious, and as a fellow Essex girl I can relate to her a lot of her anecdotes. This book was so honest, and so funny! I think this book would appeal to mothers and non mothers alike. Broody or non-broody! Male or female! This book is for everyone. Alongside a gorgeous snap of her daughter kissing her growing bump, Ellie wrote: ‘Excited. Terrified. Grateful. Hungry.’ And her voice was so clear throughout the book, never getting lost to ‘I am writing a book I must sound formal and knowledgeable’. It was authentic. The joke that started it all! As the first joke Ellie tells to Joel, this one sets the expectation for the entire rest of the season and she chose wisely. The wordplay is clever and is one of those jokes where the logic of it is what makes it a winner. The postal system and most uses for envelopes might be entirely gone in this world but that’s no reason for them to stop being used to tell hilarious jokes. The player and Joel might start the joke a little confused about what’s going on but by the end everyone’s having a great time and they’re just excited to hear the next one Ellie has cooking. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for my advanced copy of this book in exchange for a review.

Ellie's comedic, best-friend style shines through, covering even serious topics in an approachable way. It was never preachy, never ‘everyone should be a mum’ or ‘I’m so brave because I am one’. It was always an understanding voice, offering silly anecdotes or helpful advice. But still there was earnestness. I’ll end with my favourite quote, which while written in a chapter about PPD, I think is very useful for anyone struggling to hear: In My Child and Other Mistakes, Taylor chronicles her ascent into adulthood. I don’t mean the passing of the years that makes us a grown up but the decisions that we make that validate that in modern society such as getting engaged, getting married, having kids. But the book isn't 'worthy', it's a personal account where Ellie wants to encourage people to be ok with whatever choices are right for them, including whether not to have a child at all - and with some of the stories Ellie tells it might encourage them down that route! Or at least ensure that people always take the free hotel shower caps for future use - who would have thought to use them for that purpose...I’m a fan of Ellie Taylor. When I watch her acting or her stand up I genuinely belly laugh at the things that she has to say so I was eager to read her memoir My Child and Other Mistakes because I knew that I would be entertained. Ellie Taylor did not let me down. Her net worth has been growing significantly in 2022-2023. So, how much is Ellie Taylor worth at the age of 39 years old? Ellie Taylor’s income source is mostly from being a successful Presenter. She is from United Kingdom. We have estimated She revealed in an interview with Lorraine Kelly shortly afterwards that her daughter was ‘annoyed’ she had been booted off the show as she got ‘really into it.’
