Espeon is a quadrupedal, mammalian Pokémon with slender legs and dainty paws. It is covered in fine, lilac fur. Its ears are large, and it has purple eyes with white pupils. There are tufts of fur near its eyes, and a small, red gem embedded in its forehead. It also has a thin, forked tail. Psychic power builds up in the orb on its forehead as it bathes in the sunshine. Espeon is not good at battling at night. In Hi Ho Silver Wind! and Deceit and Assist, a Coordinator's Espeon competed in the Hoenn Grand Festival.Espeon, the Sun Pokémon. Espeon are able to read air currents, allowing it to predict the future, as well as its opponents' next moves. In Tag Team Battle Inspiration!, Serena's fantasy featured an Espeon as she imagined what her Eevee could evolve into. In Eevee & Friends, a vain Espeon was with an Eevee and its other evolved forms, including the newly introduced Sylveon. It despises getting messy in any way.

Espeon may be a combination of the acronym ESP ( extrasensory perception) and eon (an immeasurably long period of time, possibly referring to how long evolution takes naturally). Eon is a suffix all Eevee evolutions share and was Eevee's English prototype name. Its fur is so sensitive, it can feel minute shifts in the air and predict the weather...and its foes' thoughts. Espeon can predict just about anything by simply detecting slight shifts in the air. It seemed to be leading you through Elsewhere Forest so you wouldn’t get lost.
It is one of Eevee's final forms, the others being Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon, and Sylveon. In Pokémon Heroes: Latios & Latias, an Espeon was Annie's main Pokémon. It would use its Psychic to incapacitate foes. Mitsumi has an Espeon, which is first seen being used to stop a bomb placed by Team Galactic in A Surprise Visit from Hareta's Father!. Eifie may be a combination of エスパー ESPer (one who has extrasensory perception) and フィール feel. It is also similar to イーブイ Eievui (Eevee's Japanese name).Because of its feline appearance, Espeon appears to be based on the legend of the bakeneko and the nekomata; both are magical cat yōkai described as mysterious and intelligent, with the distinction between the two being that the latter is depicted with a forked tail. It may also be based on the mythological lynx, a feline creature that possesses the psychic power of clairvoyance. The jewel on its head may also be a reference to the carbunclo, a mythological South American creature with a jewel or mirror on its forehead, and sometimes described as a feline. The position of the jewel also evokes the idea of a " third eye".
In Master Class Choices!, Amelia used an Espeon alongside a Dragonair in the Fleurrh City Showcase. Together, they made it past the Theme Performance. However, they came in second during the Freestyle Performance, losing to Serena and her Braixen, Pancham, and Sylveon.
