Andriano, Joseph (1999). Immortal Monster: The Mythological Evolution of the Fantastic Beast in Modern Fiction and Film. Greenwood Publishing Group. pp. 17–23. ISBN 0-313-30667-2. The limited edition of Jawsby Peter Benchley is presented in four states: Artist, Numbered, Lettered and Roman Numeral. The editions are oversized at 7” x 10” and feature six full color illustrations by John Anthony Di Giovanni as well as a new exclusive introduction by Wendy Benchley. Did you know that the title Jaws nearly never existed? Among the many titles brainstormed, “Great White” topped the list, along others like “Shimmo”, “White Death”, and even “The Fish”. In the last seconds before the printing deadline, Peter Benchley crossed out the original title and penned in the single word, JAWS. “Don't know what it means”, he said, “but at least it's short.” The name is ubiquitous to nearly only one thing now, and then certainly after the summer of 1975 when the movie premiered, but nobody knew what it meant after it had been decided upon. Besides, they thought, what we have here is a first novel about a fish, and nobody reads first novels. “Furthermore, and as a does of reality, we all loudly agreed that there wasn't a chance that anybody would ever make a movie out of the book.”

I found myself just about shouting: WHERE'S THE DAMN SHARK?? WHERE'S THE DAMN SHARK?? Could somebody CUE THE SHARK?? a b c d e Dowling, Stephen (February 1, 2004). "The book that spawned a monster". BBC News . Retrieved January 19, 2009.

Benchley's contract promised him the first draft of the Jaws screenplay. He wrote three drafts before passing the job over to other writers; [34] the only other writer credited beside Benchley was the author responsible for the shooting script, actor-writer Carl Gottlieb who appears in the film as Harry Meadows. [36] Benchley also appears in the film playing a brief onscreen role as a TV reporter. [37] For the adaptation, Spielberg wanted to preserve the novel's basic concept while removing Benchley's many subplots and altering the characterizations, having found all of the characters of the book unlikable. [34] Among the major changes were the removal of the adulterous affair between Ellen Brody and Matt Hooper and Mayor Larry Vaughn's connections to the mafia. [38] Quint became a survivor of the World War II USS Indianapolis disaster, [39] and changing the cause of the shark's death from extensive wounds to a scuba tank explosion. [40] The director estimated the final script had a total of 27 scenes that were not in the book. [38] Amity was also relocated; while scouting the book's Long Island setting, Brown found it "too grand" and not fitting the idea of "a vacation area that was lower middle class enough so that an appearance of a shark would destroy the tourist business." Thus now the setting was an island in New England, filmed on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. [41]

For all their power they are amazingly fragile. Sharks are no longer the villains, they are the victims."

Peter Benchley - Book Series In Order Peter Benchley - Book Series In Order

Peter Benchley’s Jaws is the ultimate pulp thriller, and this is the ultimate illustrated edition. Folio commissioned Hokyoung Kim for the artwork, while the late author’s wife, Wendy Benchley, provides a fascinating new introduction. Watched Jaws when I was a kid, I'm forever damaged 😂. Jaws narrated by Erik Steele is exceptionally good. So exciting - every chapter, every character, everything about this book (maybe not the little shark part). The first adventure in the Folio Society editions of ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ series, Enid Blyton’s The Enchanted Wood features Jonathan Burton’s enchanting illustrations and a new introduction by Michael Morpurgo. That image of them as victims was cemented for Benchley when he witnessed the corpses of dead sharks littering the bottom of the sea. He's quoted as saying that it was one of the most horrifying sights he has ever seen. Ahí me recuerda la frase "Grita Barracuda y la gente dirá ¿Qué, qué es eso? Y ojito con las Barracudas.. Grita Tiburón y cundirá el pánico absoluto" Helpful? Not really? Okay. Let’s try this. I will do a two sentence review (though it will also have only four words): Less talk. More chomp. The first volume of the bewitching ‘Chrestomanci’ series by Diana Wynne Jones. Charmed Life arrives in an explosion of magic in this edition illustrated by Alison Bryant and introduced by Katherine Rundell. I honestly haven't come across dialogue this brutal, this unbelievable, since Modoc: The True Story of the Greatest Elephant That Ever Lived, and I still suffer PTSD from that “novel.”
