The location for the Miyagikyo distillery was selected because of its clean air, just the right humidity for storage, and abundant underground water filtered through a layer of peat. In anticipation of Nikka Whisky’s 90th Anniversary, the series offers an inside look at the various experiments in the whisky-making process that Nikka has practiced over the years. They are distilled in copper pot stills and matured in a variety of cask types - including ex-bourbon, ex-sherry and even mizunara.

The distillery, founded by Masataka Taketsuru in 1934, is renowned for its commitment to quality and craftsmanship. From the arid plantations on the edge of the Mexican desert, through the rugged glens of the Scottish Highlands, to the undulating vineyards of Cognac in Southwest France, successive generations have been distilling the fermented liquor of agave, barley, grape, cane sugar and other fruits, plants and grains. I love Japanese Whisky so I bought this as it won some awards and came first but to be honest i prefer the cheaper ones as this is too much like Scottish Whisky and too be honest too strong its a bit harsh. It offers a delicate balance of bright fruitiness and rich mouthfeel, along with its distinctive smokiness generated by coal-fired distillation.
