At the cost, I did not expect much about the SR850’s build and material quality. However, they are good and should last longer with proper care. The headphone is made almost out of plastic. The plastic quality is very low but they have surprisingly gone a few months without breaking. Speaking of breaking headphones, if you are someone who keeps breaking their headphones, we have an article here for someone like you. Do you believe the hype? You should do. If we were to compare these two, we’d say that they’re pretty close in terms of build quality. They’re decent, they’re worth their price, but things could be better. These are made entirely from plastic. Housing, self-adjusting headband, and even earpads. They’re very lightweight for their size, which adds to the comfort, but not to durability. In our opinion, the AKG K240 Studio are among the best options available in terms of budget-friendly headphones. They sound and feel far better than the Samsons.

Of course, we’re not here to look into the best headphones for an active lifestyle. It’s not like you’ll be plugging them into your iPhone and go running cross-country. But it’s still always welcome to have studio headphones that can clamp tightly over your head and ears if needed. And even thought they both have detacheable cables, these can still yank the headphones off of your head with sudden movements or pulls. Before you do that though, the best piece of advice I can give is to try and get to know how your headphones sound. Learn their positive and negative points. Find how they balance when playing particular genres of music. Knowing your equipment is the best way to find your own sound. Apparently, Samson SR850 uses some AKG drivers that are usually found in pricier headphones. The result is simply excellent.

This makes the headphone sibilant and also fatiguing pretty fast. However, I only experienced this when using the headphone at a higher volume. For normal listening, this problem is pretty nonexistent. So if you listen to headphones very loud, you should keep that in mind when choosing the SR850. On the upside, the treble is airy and has good details which make the headphone interesting and clear. Soundstage On the other hand, the 850 is crisper, livelier, and more comfortable, but has the treble peak issue.

Of course, Samson is far from a bad choice, but you’ll enjoy K240 more if you’re looking for comfort. Both headsets are relatively light as well, so you won’t be facing any comfort-related problems with either of them. Ergonomic qualities are of great importance to anyone who’s looking for a home studio headset. While both of these sets are great in this regard, we can’t help but notice that AKG K240 is, objectively, a better choice. I mean, there’s a rise in the mid-bass on the 668B for sure, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it boomy. It’s more of a gradual, rounded-off curve and not really a jarring peak, so if you do want some extra meat, go with the Superlux. The 850 can sometimes sound kind of dry but it’s still a great headphone for its price. I would classify the 850 bass as more textured actually. It just doesn’t have a lot of slam. The HD668B don't do well with EQ when adding bass. They lose some definition and sound a bit too boomy.The AKG K240 MKII is a natural alternative to the Samson SR850. It features a similar design and is also an excellent choice for studio work. But at the same time, we’re not sure how long they’d last. This is especially the case with all the mobile mechanical parts on it. It’s not catastrophic, but you can’t expect it to last for too long unless you’re super careful all the time. Build Quality: Bottom Line For the most part, they are incredibly detailed and have a nice sense of air about them, but I will caution you that it will likely need some EQ. Gaming You’ll also start to hear subtle details in the music that sound really interesting and also very revealing.
