About this deal

A flawlessly plotted murder mystery. Devilishly brilliant. I loved it!' Sarah Bonner, author of Her Perfect Twin I really loved Katy Brent's first book, which I still think is the best in the recently mushrooming "female vigilante story with humour" genre, so I was excited to have the opportunity to read her latest book. And I have to say Brent has followed up an excellent debut novel with an equally good follow up in this, her second book. The format and pacing of the novel was perfect, with each chapter beginning with a topical tweet from a different random internet person (very emblematic of our current world where everyone feels entitled to an opinion on everything) before lurching into Molly’s inner thoughts, memories and conversations. Brent skillfully kept me guessing throughout the book about who could be trusted and #WhatHappenedToLuluLawrence, and impressively the revelations continued right up until the epilogue’s post credits scene.

are you telling me there are no working CCTV in the fancy schmancy places this rich broad is hanging out at? With The Murder after the Night Before, Brent has done it again, producing another gripping, dark and engaging story. Brent set the standard high with her debut and she hit the ground running with her second novel.

being a vegan is totally fine with me, it's not how I live, but why ya gotta make me question what's in my meat so much? The waste amount of hidden feminism. Sorry, not my thing. At least not in this amount. Not all men are bad. Not all women are good and the other way around. some of the ways she transported the victims to their final destinations was a bit far fetched. Does she hit the gym behind the scenes? I'm mainly referring to Joel, unless I misinterpreted how she did it. Once again, Katy Brent has shown her immense talent at writing dark humour with a thought-provoking core’ Sarah Clarke, author of A Mother Never Lies

This is a great mix of humour albeit the dark kind, there are weird disturbing vibes from the online stalker to say nothing of the threat from some people Kitty and her friends encounter on their nights out. This is a really good debut and an author to watch in the future. I've woken up with the hangover from hell, a stranger in my bed, and I've gone viral for the worst reasons. I highly suspect that a lot of people are not going to like this book because they will not find Kitty likeable. I totally understand that; I am the same way. However, in this case, I actually liked Kitty, in spite of the fact that I often ridicule her kind (Influencers). Once again, her antics and shenanigans made me laugh, while at the same time were incredibly sad too (tragicomedy). This makes her a good MC in my book. And this folks, is why I prefer to read fiction instead of non-fiction! A story doesn’t have to be believable for me to enjoy it. Unfortunately that hang-up soon turns deadly when she accidentally kills a man who's harassing her on her way home. Faster than you can say "look what you made me do," she starts not-so-accidentally killing other men who are guilty of everything from ghosting to rape. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there, and Kitty is planning on serving them up on #sponsored cutlery, with a pinch of vigilante justice. What a ride! Unflinchingly realistic and raw but somehow also brilliantly funny at times, Brent's novel is a must-read’ Jesse Sutanto, author of Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers

I debated on whether or not to even approach reviewing "How to Kill Men and Get Away With It," but dang it, that cover and title hooked me and then I spent a day and a half of my time plodding through to the end. I hate being a meanie -- especially when it involves a debuting author. But -- sometimes it just needs to be said.

Being a man I really shouldn't like this book. Well I didn't like it. I loved it! Oh I just couldn't stop reading this.’ NetGalley reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ As she drags herself to work, she's sure that she's being given "looks" from others on the commute. Her phone still isn't turning on and she tells herself she's being paranoid.

huge disappointment considering this was my biggest anticipated read for may. I don’t remember a single thing about this book besides how bad the ending was. I know this is a satire. I know it’s not meant to be serious. But boy, it was insta dislike for me. I hated the main character. I loathed her. She was so righteous and just not real. Nothing about her was relatable. If she was a bit more down to earth, a bit less of this “I am a loaded influencer “ stuff… maybe I am too old for that influencer scene… Kitty is an influencer turned serial killer ‘a la Dexter’ and I love her! She’s such a bad ass, with a dark dark sense of humor, a lot of sarcasm in her and a little sweet edge. She’s also very psycho..

I love Brent’s sense of humour and there are so many laugh out loud moments delivered with a punch throughout this dark and at times, disturbing read. The main character, Molly, is put in a very compromising position (no spoilers!) but her sarcasm and sense of humour really helps to lighten what is a dark topic. Despite guessing a couple of the twists, I couldn't put it down. Highly recommended but please read the content warnings. I absolutely, massively disliked Kitty. I do realise that she was written like that on purpose, but come on, I can take it only that long… He doesn’t look like a monster though. But they don’t, do they? Otherwise, they’d never get the opportunity to be monsters.”

The casual, conversational writing style is paired with a satirical narrative that is both uncomfortable and entertaining in its use of dark humour and commentary on social issues. Vivid (sometimes gruesome) details and smooth transitions between current and past events also enhance the story and keep it engaging. it got extremely repetitive, she would do her daily things and then just kill someone.. over and over. What happens when a (possibly murderous) sociopath takes a writing workshop? This is the premise of Nathan Oates's delicious, inexorable, fast-paced tale of obsession - a thriller that will keep you reading till the end." - Karan Mahajan
