They may gather around the body, touch it, and emit low-frequency calls, known as “rumbling,” which are believed to be a form of communication related to mourning. This behavior is a testament to the strong emotional connections that elephants form within their social groups. The Elephant Graveyard is depicted as a gloomy and eerie place, with decaying elephant skeletons scattered around, giving it its name. Several theories have been proposed to explain the origin of this myth. One theory involves people finding groups of elephant skeletons together, or observing old elephants and skeletons in the same habitat. [3] Others suggest the term may spring from group die-offs, such as one excavated in Saxony-Anhalt, which had 27 Palaeoloxodon antiquus skeletons. [4] In that particular case, the tusks of the skeletons were missing, which indicated either hunters killed a group of elephants in one spot, or else opportunistic scavengers removed the tusks from a natural die-off. Elephants have lived on the mountain for thousands of years, and though populations have dwindled, there is still evidence of herds in the forests. Social bonds: Elephants are highly social animals that live in complex family groups. They form strong bonds with their relatives and show signs of mourning when a member of their group dies. However, this does not imply that they have knowledge of a specific graveyard or purposefully go to such a place.

Let me start again. the books pretty good. I would highly recommend reading this long form essay before starting the book.It is also worth mentioning that the idea of an elephant graveyard has been popularized in various forms of media, such as movies and literature.
