About this deal

There are two feet to be screwed to the chassis, and they can be made to look like a single pedestal using a plastic cover that feels rather cheap and fits only approximately. Still, it raises the bottom of the screen sufficiently to comfortably fit a soundbar beneath. Samsung BU8500 review: Value This TV’s sense of detail is not forensic, whether it’s peeking into bright or dark tones, and there’s a fuzziness in general: the leather texture and styling of Geralt’s suit in The Witcher seem hazy in their definition. There’s an overall softness that indicates the BU8000 doesn’t offer the sharpest-looking image. You'll find that most of the TVs on this list are 2022 models. That's because our recommendations are based on a performance-per-pound mantra, so buying a TV that's been out for a little while and has therefore been thoroughly discounted is almost always a better decision than going for a brand new model that might be excellent but is still full price.

Audio modes are a choice of Standard, Adaptive Sound and Amplify. Adaptive Sound is decent, but I found Amplify improved the loudness of the TV, although its impression of dynamism is on the weaker side. Most are side-facing – which helps with routing cables – but an HDMI port and digital optical out are rear-facing, so if you want to connect a third source, you may need one of those right-angled HDMI connectors. Here the frankly astonishing depth of less than 3cm has been achieved with all of the electronics onboard.

HDR10 is a static HDR format that applies the HDR values on a scene-by-scene basis (i.e. whenever the camera cuts to a new scene). Dolby Vision, on the other hand, applies this image information (called metadata) on a frame-by-frame basis. This dynamic form of HDR, when implemented properly, has the potential to improve upon the standard HDR10 presentation. So not for the first time (and almost certainly not for the last), Samsung has managed to hit a price-point without too many obvious compromises. It's absolutely one of the best Samsung TVs available today for those on a budget. Samsung BU8500 review: Price and release date Integrated Speaker, Parental Control, EPG, USB Media Player, Multilingual OSD, eARC, Wall Mounted, Stereo, Subtitles, Teletext, Sleep Timer, Auto Channel Search

If you’re sitting the correct distance from your TV, you’ll see lots of detail, good edge definition and smooth, clean motion, but if you’re sitting too close to the screen, then you’re going to see more picture noise and artefacts. Calibrating the UE40B8000 isn't as easy as with some of its rivals. Partly this is because the remote is rather unpleasant to use, but it's also because of an abundance of picture options such as Dynamic Contrast, Colour Space, Edge Enhancement and 200Hz Motion Plus. The UE43BU8000’s ‘AirSlim’ design really helps it stand out from the budget TV crowd, with its 26mm-deep rear creating an almost OLED-like look that’s particularly at home hung on a wall. Compare the UE65BU8000 with, say, Samsung’s QN90B Neo QLED and there’s an obvious and predictable gulf in quality. But the former is pitched to a more affordable market, and judged on its own merits, it offers a decent viewing experience. But its HDR performance left me wanting for a more expressive picture.Images upscaled by the Crystal Processor 4K are crisply defined and full of clarity. Fine detail is excellent; whether its textures, objects or faces – the Samsung TU7020 is fantastic at digging up detail. You can now buy 8K TVs from a number of brands, including Samsung, LG and Sony. It's arguably Samsung that has lead the way, and our favourite 8K TV so far is the excellent QE75QN900B. The interface can be a little sluggish, but not enough to induce fits of rage. While the Samsung TU7020 is SmartThings compatible, that doesn’t extend to operation of the TV or for set-up purpose, despite the TV indicating it can be used for the latter. Many countries receive market-specific variations of television, of course, due to differences in broadcast standards and so on – so at present there’s no confirmation of what the equivalent Samsung screen will be in other territories. What we can be certain of, though, is that both the United States and Australia will be getting a range of competitively priced, competitively specified Samsung 4K LED TVs that are more than a little reminiscent of the BU8500 series. The UE43AU7100 is built on a Vertical Alignmenttype of LCD panel, with edge LED lighting and a native 4K resolution. It supports the HDR10, HLG and HDR10+ flavours of high dynamic range, but as ever with Samsung, Dolby Vision is not on the menu.

While not outfitted with the fancier features of its more expensive siblings, the TU7020’s interface, app support and gaming are like what you’d see higher up the range. There’s no sign of the oddly compressed-looking, basic, detail-light look the 43AU7100 could take on with mid-dark tones either. In fact, the UE43BU8000’s more consistent colour refinement means that pictures, especially during relatively dark scenes, often look more three-dimensional and refined. We have state-of-the-art testing facilities in London, Bath and Reading, where our team of expert reviewers do all of our testing. This gives us complete control over the testing process, ensuring consistency. What's more, all review verdicts are agreed upon by the team as a whole rather than an individual reviewer, again helping to ensure consistency and avoid any personal preference. While it might be tempting to think that bigger is better, the size of set that’s right for you is closely dependent on how close to the screen you’ll be sitting, and the resolution of the source material you’re watching. But while the A95K isn't brighter than the brightest traditional OLED TV, it does deliver better bright highlights with subtle shades and colors that its non-QD-OLED rivals miss. For users who prefer to place the TV on a piece of furniture rather than mounting it on the wall, the UE43BU8000 features adjustable feet with separate wide and narrow attachment positions to accommodate different sizes of soundbars or narrow furniture. Speaking of soundbars, the UE43BU8000 may benefit from the addition of one due to its audio performance. As has lately been Samsung’s wont, the AU7100 is supplied with a couple of remote control handsets with which to navigate the interface, pursue the set-up menus and what-have-you. One is (and there’s no two ways about it) an unpleasant, cheap-feeling, overburdened handset of confusion, while the is a much nicer, much more minimal ‘just the basics’ alternative.
