About this deal

With an eye-catching rippled wave design that covers the rear of the unit, this portable music player looks stylish and provides a better grip. Does it all sound great? We think so, but there is a catch. Specifically that according to Sony’s spec sheet the NW-A306 will only feature 32GB of storage. To make matters worse, only 18GB of this is listed as being “usable”. If Sony approves the customer’s price match request the below terms apply. If Sony does not approve the customer’s price match request the customer will be informed of this. Terms that apply where price match is approved:

The new model has been certified with Bluetooth 5.0, and not 5.2, so unless it is re-certified, there will be no LE Audio support by the looks of it. The certification also confirms the Qualcomm SoC, while not specifically the QCS2290, it is in the list. Anyways, an interesting note is the Design Description, "Bluetooth technology platform for YY130x series". Hmm while I doubt that the ZX uses the same chip since the benchmarks are higher, it begs the question, why does it say YY130x series? Anyways, I hope the ZX will show up on Bluetooth SIG soon, it would help with identifying the SoC used. There is mention of "Qualcomm® Radio Control Toolkit v4.0" for Bluetooth testing, so if this new model is using a Qualcomm chip is unknown but the previous Sony Walkmans used a Murata 1PJ, which employed a Qualcomm chip in it, so we may have a similar situation here.

Small can be beautiful (and can sound big too)

present [ edit ] A100 and A300 [ edit ] The 40th anniversary special edition of the NW-A100, with a soft cover that makes it resemble the TPS-L2 Walkman from 1979 A 24bit/96kHz file of Grapevine by Weyes Blood heard via a pair of Technics EAH-AZ80– which we rank among our best earbuds– makes the point in some style. It’s a robust, full-figured sound the NW-A306 presents, but with no shortage of delicacy or deftness. The overall tonality is nicely balanced, and there’s no overstating or understating of any part of the frequency range. Integration is smooth, and the Sony NW-A306 establishes a big, properly organised soundstage that has both depth and width. If there were to be only one complaint for the NW-A100, it was poor/mediocre battery life. Well Sony has listened and delivered vastly improved battery life all around. Even with the higher price of the new model, just for the battery life, this is worth it. Make sure you get a sync/charging lead with it because they are unique to this series and 3rd party manufacturers never bothered with making them so they are rare. Using Edge-AI (Artificial Intelligence), DSEE Ultimate (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) upscales compressed digital music files in real-time, allowing you to enjoy high-quality sound even when listening to low-quality files.

Google translate to the rescue! From what I could make out, it seems that this copper foil improves the low range frequencies, but it also strengthens the ground. I do not know if this means to make the board more stiff or it is referring to the ground in terms of power. I suspect it is the former, but I again ask my Japanese readers to help with this translation in the comments below. If anyone knows what the yellow, green and blue regions do, please leave a comment below. Maybe I will make a video for to post and YouTube and see what people post there. The 3.6 inches (diag.) display of the NW-A306 Walkman gives you easier access to your music without compromising comfort. With the Walkman Home Screen, you can customize the home display to suit your needs. The screen is a 3.6in with HD resolution (same as before), using the Android 12 OS, previously Android 9. The biggest improvement is the battery life, now rated up to 36 hours for MP3 (128kbps) and up to 32 hours for FLAC (96Khz/24bit). Compare this to the old model which had up to 23 hours for MP3 (128kbps) and up to 19 hours for FLAC (96Khz/24bit). This is a huge change and a welcome one. Inc, Sony Marketing(Japan). "ハイレゾを彩り鮮やかに楽しむヘッドホン新シリーズ h.ear(TM)・ウォークマン(R)新Aシリーズ発売". ソニー製品情報 (in Japanese) . Retrieved 2022-05-09. {{ cite web}}: |last= has generic name ( help) An interesting detail from the filing is that Pegatron is mentioned a few times, so perhaps they are building it for Sony. The box shows the player is Made in China.

Removal of ATRAC support. Works with Windows Media Player 11 instead of SonicStage. First video Walkman released in North America. Not released in Japan. In Japan the new A-Series will be available at the end of January on the 27th and will come in 32GB (A306) and 64GB (A307) capacities, with Europe only getting the 32GB model. The price in Japan is 46,000 Yen for the 32GB and 57,000 Yen for the 64GB, where as in Europe it will be 399 Euros or 349 Pounds. Finally onto the ZX-Series (YY1302B). The model name is revealed, NW-ZX707. There appears to be only one model with 64GB capacity. Perhaps Europe or more likely Asia will get maybe a higher capacity version and more colours. Once you have audio files loaded, the player is a sweety. Not the most detailed sound profile around, by a long way, but warm punchy and smooth. My old ipod mini sounds anemic by comparison. Even if the player is turned off for an extended period, a small amount of battery power is still consumed. Connect wirelessly with Bluetooth and you're ready to go. aptX HD audio compatibility is available, allowing for high-quality wireless audio streaming.
