Not 10 years old as the name suggests, the majority of the blend is 7–8 years with approximately 60% of the blend being pot still and 40% grain. Time spent maturing in these barrels lends this whiskey intensified notes of vanilla sweetness and caramel, alongside toasted wood, fruit, and warm spice.

However, as a whiskey on its own merit, it's very good and probably a great addition to someone that's just beginning their collection and figuring out what exactly they're looking for in a whiskey.Jameson Black Barrel is aged for up to 16 years in double charred barrels, making it a full strength whiskey bursting with aromas of toffee and fudge, complemented by a spicy character and a rich vanilla finish. Before this Malt Nuts Glen Keith Tasting, the amount of whisky I’ve had from this distillery could fit on an end table.

The Irish in general, and Jameson in particular, continued with the traditional pot still production process for many years. It’s not quite as monumental as the Barry Crockett Legacy, but it’s working its way up there and as far as blended Irish whiskey goes it just might be my favorite, readily accessible, blend on the market.

Grassy malt, caramel, butterscotch and a light fruit lazily make their way out of the glass followed by some nice lemony citrus and a touch of spice.
