Summer: it’s usually even busier in summer so, if you want to grab one of the most coveted spots you’ll need to plan to get there at least 2 or 3 hours in advance. Be patient. You will be there early and most likely will have to wait another hour. When the sun rises, it still takes a while to get the orange glow on the arch. In the beginning I thought “is this it?” but once the glow started … I couldn’t stop taking pics. By then you have arrived at Mesa Arch and if you haven’t been to this spot before to explore it a bit, you will have no clue what’s in the dark. Once the sun starts rising and the world starts lighting up, you will experience the grandeur of the vistas opening up behind Mesa Arch. Sunrise at Mesa Arch is just pure magic! Protein is all the rage right now and for good reason. The nutrient can fill you up, boost your metabolism, and help you burn fat. Unfortunately, the majority of the 13 grams of protein in this cereal comes from soy protein isolate, which is most likely extracted from genetically modified, pesticide-laden soybeans. Another reason to steer clear? Kellogg's sweetens up the cereal with sucralose, an artificial sweetener that won't shut off your hunger hormones like real sugar can. Mesa Arch is located in Canyonlands National Park in an area known as Island in the Sky. The Canyonlands Park Entrance is located around 40 minutes drive from Moab, with the Mesa Arch trailhead parking lot a further 10 minutes drive into the park. The parking lot at the trailhead has space for around 35 to 40 cars. When grabbing a box off the shelf, make a point of steering clear of the three C's: crunch, crisps, and clusters. This trio is typically code for clumps of rice held together by sugar and fat, like in these Honey (aka corn syrup and caramel color) Bunches of Oats. If it weren't for the seven different types of sweeteners added to this cereal, sugar would be the first item found on the ingredient list. If you want to nourish your system, try doing so without ingesting highly processed foods like soy protein isolate, modified corn starch, acacia gum, and the potentially carcinogen-containing preservative, BHT. Quaker Oatmeal Squares Golden Maple The most important planning tip is to know exactly where the sun will rise on the horizon from the perspective of the view under the arch. This changes throughout the year and will dictate where you choose to setup at the arch. We use an app called PhotoPills ( Apple / Android) which allows us to know exactly when and where the sun will rise. It was invaluable at Mesa Arch.
