About this deal

Further along in the wear, we get to hit a base of sandalwood and patchouli. I really appreciate how subtle these later notes are and how they simply enhance the overall vibe of an already fantastic smelling cologne. MARLEN: So, along the same lines, John, many folks have become familiar with iris as a main fragrance note since the launch of Dior Homme. How would you say the Pradas compare to other mainstream iris fragrances? JOHN: Not only do I think it's a successful flanker, I think it's much better than the original. As we've talked about before, sometimes a flanker can really take the DNA of a scent and do wonders with it. I think this is the case with L'Homme Intense. I don't think it's dramatically more powerful than the original L'Homme, but it focuses the spotlight more directly on the darker parts of the fragrance, the ones which I like more.

JOHN: We've talked about the advantages of flankers in the perfume world. Here you think the original is more successful. What quality in the "Intense" made it go wrong? Why is L'Homme right as it is? It’s really at this time, that I am reminded of Dior Homme and Dior Homme Eau, as L’Homme Intense fits right in line with that series. However, this is stronger on the iris and doesn’t have the leather to the same extent, nor any cacao. The overlap isn’t too extreme. Or it could be possible that some ingredient was substituted to another by Givaudan themselves (owners of the formula) due to supply chain issues on raw materials? Many of Pierre Bourdon's submissions to L'Oreal over the years were shot down by her, and she's still with the company today. She probably saw that many older Prada masculines like Amber pour Homme, Amber pour Homme Intense, and the Luna Rossa Sport line (both regular and L'eau) didn't sell well enough to meet expectations, and since L'Oreal is ultimately beholden to produce growth and profit above all else, they cut the weakest links. As you may have heard there's a fair bit amount of discussion lately about Prada L'Homme Intense being discontinued.L’Homme Prada Intense expresses the multiplicity of male identity through intense Amber and Patchouli notes that cross paths with the floral refinement of Iris, while the introduction of Tonka Beans brings an airy, oriental dimension to the top end." Prada.com Ultimately boils down to industry politics and cold unfeeling marketing sociopathy driven by evaluators and directors at L'Oréal. So, today I have another entry from the Prada line of men’s fragrances, and one of the flankers to the original Prada L’Homme: Prada L’Homme Intense. In this post, I am going to cover what’s in it, how it smells, when it should be worn, how long it lasts, and if it is even worth a buy?

I don't know how big the differences are with those, you may want to find out by yourself if that's one of your favorites. Millions and millions of dollars are at stake so why would a company like Prada give their license to another company that hasn't got a clue? It's not that simple. And Prada would never do that. They aren't stupid. I like Frag frog but he insists that every fragrance made from L'Oréal after Puig is terrible. And I repeat that is not possible.I personally thought that it would have been skipped because L'Oreal France (who has taken over the Prada fragrances from Puig Spain) didn't want to produce it anymore. JOHN: This is an interesting question, and nice to put to me! I was thinking of one artist, but two different paintings. Henri Matisse, the French painter, has a painting in the Museum of Modern Art in New York called The Piano Lesson - this to me is Prada L'Homme... there's a certain quiet, proportioned simplicity to the scent perfectly captured in this painting. The grey color also matches this kind of iris. Another painting by Matisse is a perfect match to L'Homme Intense, it's called The Pink Studio, and is owned by the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, Russia. The painting isn't about the color pink but rather this bold blue and turquoise in the center that takes all the attention. This is the "intense" that I feel when smelling L'Homme Intense. Those rich ambery notes flavored with iris are well-represented in this painting.

I even don't know if a 2019 Puig batch would differ from my 2017 one, I haven't tried and compared both. Of course it's not a fair comparison because the 2017 bottles is opened since then, alcohol has evaporated a bit which made the pure fragrance oil concentration higher and some volatile top notes may have disappeared too.

Unlike its predecessor, Prada L'Homme Intense sets the fragrant, aquatic iris accent right from the start. It takes the entire top note for itself and thus gives a clear direction: Sweetish floral scents are not to be expected in the following. Rather, aromatic and balsamic smells unfold in the heart note . Sensual, animalistic amber spreads emphatically here and is muffled by patchouli with an herbaceous sultriness. Compared to the original perfume, L'Homme Intense strikes a coarser note from the start. Even in the base note remains Intense masculine. Woody and smoky nuances dominate here of fine sandalwood, strong tonka bean and leather create a seductive sillage. Chic, Angular Glass Bottle DESIGNER'S DESCRIPTION: "At the epicenter of the House, La Femme Prada and L’Homme Prada represent a fluid relationship between polar definitions. The family of fragrances draw on both time honored ingredients and surprising compositions, yielding fragrances that defy expectations. The powdery iris and the mix of woods, sweet notes, and leather are truly fantastic together. Not a super complicated fragrance in its development, but is definitely enjoyable throughout. What it ultimately dries down to is an incredibly rich blend of mainly the iris and tonka bean. It’s so classy and smooth, with the leather and amber, being the next most powerful notes.
