About this deal

Usually suitable for standing in the bathtub or on a balcony, they have two large fold-out wings that are perfect for hanging longer items such as towels, trousers and maxi dresses. Most winged models also have flat sections — either between the wings or between the leg rungs — that are great for drying delicates and smaller items. Due to their large wings, they tend to be quite tall even when folded down. Bathtub Collapsible size: Let’s face it, clothes airers aren’t good looking. Most people want a clothes airer they can stash away in storage when they’re not in use. Pay attention to the collapsible size of the clothes airer you’re considering so that you know you can fit it inside a cupboard or under a bed. We took each airer's capacity into account to also calculate the cost of drying a large cotton load. Cost calculated based on the unit cost of electricity of 30p per kWh between 1 July and 30 September 2023.

Some look like a tower, which typically affords more drying space for the room they take up, but they can be less accommodating of larger items such as dresses, towels and bedsheets. I’ve seen people swear by putting a cover over their heated airer to speed up drying time. But from my experience, this isn’t always the case. They also dry clothes a good deal faster than non-heated clothes airers, taking four to six hours – depending on the model – to dry a cotton load. They dry clothes faster than heated bar clothes airers, but typically have smaller capacities. You'll be able to hang dresses and jeans in them, but bedsheets and duvets are a no-go. Rather than heated rungs, this variation on the heated airer features a 70C fan. It circulates hot air around your clothes, which are encased in a tent-like, ventilated outer cover. This means it dries clothes faster than other airers. We used a force gauge to determine how much force is needed to topple over each heated airer, as well as the flexibility of each airer's bars.

I've found that heated clothes airers do have very consistent drying speeds. They've always taken the same amount of time, give or take about 15 minutes. I found the Dry:Soon took around four to five hours to dry lighter materials; and closer to 10-12 for heavier jumpers and the like. In the world of heated clothes airers, that’s really pretty good – the cover certainly does its job.Keeping this in mind, a tumble dryer would most likely dry a regular washing load much faster for the same electricity cost or probably even less. However, if you have an older model, running it would cost more and investing on a more energy-efficient heated clothes airer will cut your electric bills.
