About this deal

But Mike Brooks does deserve credit for his no bullshit, normalized representation of a same sex couple. Such are his gifts of secrecy and deceit that even his rediscovery has remained an enigma – until now. Wouldnt say it's a must and critical read but certainly one to read and explore for those interested in life before and during the early crusade. I read the book, I enjoyed it, I shared my opinion – and that’s all it is, my opinion on my blog where I can do as I see fit. By showing us each of his brothers through Alpharius’ eyes, Brooks gives us one of the most convincing sketches of why the Primarchs were created.

of the Hydra Sons of the Hydra

Guy has revisited these novels to align with the epic events of the Indomitus Crusade – so they now dovetail nicely with the ongoing Dawn of Fire series.

Alpharius: Head of the Hydra by Mike Brooks, tells the story of the Primarch Alpharius in his own words for the first time. Some authors seem to struggle with the Alpha Legion, putting Alpharius himself at the core of every mission as though he’s the only spy the Imperium has ( Deliverance Lost I’m looking at you here), turning him into a one dimensional mustache twirling scoundrel (“I would have got away with it too if it wasn’t for Rogal Dorn! From James Swallow’s Sisters of Battle: The Omnibus to Rachel Harrison’s Mark of Faith and Danie Ware’s novella trilogy, comprising The Bloodied Rose , Wreck and Ruin , and The Rose in Anger , there are loads of books you can read to show your devotion to the God-Emperor. A leather-effect, ribbed spine, and embedded metal centrepiece are all included, while the gilt page edges and ribbon bookmark complete the handsome presentation.

Mike Brooks can be a bit mixed I find, I really enjoyed Wanted: Dead as well, whereas Road To Redemption was decent enough but nothing amazing and Dead Drop was trying too hard to be clever and failed to be well written. Between being able to disguise himself as his own legionaries, encouraging his legionaries to pass themselves off as him, and having a hidden identical twin, is it any wonder that he has been “officially” killed off by at least two of his brother Primarchs? A great read, loved subtle references here and there as well as a great deal of forbearing tones and details however this is half the tale in that we discover new things about the most illusive and mysterious of all the primearchs and his / their legion which the novel introduces is to and explores. In the end, this book made me appreciate Alpharius as a character a lot more, Mike Brooks made him truly his own man in his oeuvre.Alpharius has become my favorite primarch and this story makes me need to read more stories of the Alpha legion.
