About this deal

All-in-all, this new design is a welcome addition to my record cleaning arsenal, as it makes sense to me that fine fibers can aid the process in a way regular microfiber clothes just can’t.

The photos of the Splash Landing Record Towel are for illustration only! This Kit does not include the towel. Permanently antistatic LPs, with Disco-Antistatic Mixture, a special liquid that automatically removes dust, debris and dried liquids without residue and deep into the groove. If this continues, clean the record side again because it isn't truly clean yet. Please keep in mind that the accumulation of grime on the stylus is not G2 Fluid. It is the grime in the groove that G2 Fluid has loosened but is difficult for the microfiber pad to remove. Super wetting agent: A specialty chemical that reduces the G2 Fluid's surface tension to reach the bottom of the groove. When you spray G2 Fluid on a record, you can see it spread down the grooves. Many collectors sing the praises of ultrasonic cleaning for its ability to deep clean vinyl records without the need for brushes to scrub the surface physically. The process has long been popular in the jewelry industry for cleaning tiny cavities.A series of adaptors hit the market to make ultrasonic record cleaning more obtainable, enabling collectors to use cheaper general-purpose ultrasonic cleaners to clean records. These products work well, but are far from compact, making them difficult to store. At risk of sounding like a broken record (pun intended), we’re big fans of the GrooveWasher record cleaning kits here at Sound Matters. Their flagship G2 record cleaning fluid is our go-to day-to-day record cleaning fluid. In terms of results, I’ve reviewed both the G2 record fluid and the SC1 stylus cleaning kit extensively in the previous articles linked, respectively. For this review’s purpose, I will keep it brief and refer to the earlier articles. Curious to see how a surfactant could improve the result, I added a drop of GrooveWasher’s G-Sonic concentrate to the water tank. G-Sonic is a surfactant and emulsifier blend that helps aid the cleaning process and break water surface tension. It’s made of very fine split-fiber microfiber for a very soft suede feel. It’s recommended as a pad for light cleaning before spinning your record.

Being UK-based, I’ve tried plenty of the manual cleaning options available this side of the pond (namely, Clear Groove and Vinyl Revival), but until now, I’ve been unable to test any US equivalents directly. I would like to thank the folks at GrooveWasher for changing all that by kindly sending me their starter kit in the mail. Some vinyl cleaning fluids on the market are plain distilled water with limited cleaning action. Others have a high level of alcohol which can harm vinyl records. Some leave a layer in the microgroove that reduces sound fidelity. One 8 ounce bottle of G2 Fluid with spout top. Use to refill the 2 ounce and / or 4 ounce mist spray bottle. 1,000+ mist sprays in this 8 ounce bottle. Some features of the Tonar Knosti Disco-Antistat Ultraclean: The cleaning time can be conveniently adjusted to the degree of soiling of the record, supported by a functional display. A clearly visible progress indicator informs about the cleaning status at a glance. Only time will tell over the coming months whether or not the HumminGuru replaces my Pro-Ject cleaning machine or not. Watch this space as I continue to test the machine with vintage vinyl finds.Borrowing a concept from the computer accessories industry, numerous companies have released gel-based vinyl record cleaning kits. During the cleaning cycle, you could clearly see how differently the water behaved on the record surface with the addition of just a small drop of G-Sonic. Instead of moving over the record surface in patches, the water now consistently and evenly spread across the entire surface and was clearly entering the groove with ease.

Ultrasonic cleaning works through high-frequency sound waves transmitted through liquid to scrub clean the surface of immersed parts. The high-frequency sound waves agitate the liquid solution, and cause the 'cavitation' of the solution's molecules. Cavitation means that bubbles are formed when sonic energy creates a void (or cavity) which gets trapped as a bubble in the liquid. So far so good; a light cleaning of new records produced no discernible residue. But how does GrooveWasher perform when faced with the challenge of used records? To find out, I headed to my local record store in search of some pre-loved classics. One 8 ounce bottle of G2 Fluid with spout top. Use to refill the 2 ounce and/or 4 ounce mist spray bottle. 1,000+ mist sprays in this 8 ounce bottle.

All the fluids mentioned in this article contain either no alcohol or a minimal trace amount and are considered perfectly safe. For heavier cleaning needs, choose the *Two-Step G3 Record Cleaning Fluid. It's the same formulation as GrooveWasher's One-Step G2 Fluid with one important difference: An increased surfactant concentration for greater power to get down and do the dirty work! Notes:Pro-quality record cleaning system from Dutch vinyl specialists Tonar. Ultrasonic cleaning aims to remove dust and dirt without damaging the grooves. Highly effective, gentle care for 7-inch, 10-inch and 12-inch records. This refill is one of the essential parts of the GroveWasher product that simply works great. Gently cleans the record surface lifting out all the accumulated dirt and grime with ease." Richard Villanova Designed for use with the GrooveWasher cleaning pads. But you can use G2 Fluid with your preferred absorbent brush or fabric. NOTE: Carbon fiber brushes are non-absorbent and not designed for wet cleaning. Use of G2 Fluid with a carbon fiber brush is not recommended.Vintage records in less than mint condition often have scuffs and scratches. The GrooveWasher System does not fix scuffs or scratches. The GrooveWasher System cleans the record’s surface and microgroove to release the honest sound of that particular record. If the record is flawed, if the recording or pressing are not high fidelity, the GrooveWasher System will not improve it. This is a common issue with pure distilled water that is usually rectified by adding a tiny amount of surfactant to the water. Adding just a small amount of surfactant can break the water tension and aid the cleaning process. Secondly, over time, these products start to lose their consistency in staying together as a complete gel ball. Eventually, they can flake away, leaving gel on the record surface. They’re a handy accessory for cleaning dust off your turntable in challenging to reach gaps, but don’t use them directly on your records. Some homemade remedies and even commercial record cleaning fluids contain isopropyl alcohol as one of the main ingredients. As a rule of thumb, if you can smell the alcohol, it is undoubtedly too much.
