About this deal

This was dark and gritty and contemplative - - and I loved it. Writer Tomlin makes some subtle changes to the Gotham landscape in a story of the early years of Bruce Wayne as Batman. Alfred is gone (he bailed out early due to an uncooperative young Bruce) and Bruce Wayne/Batman is a true loner, except for his psycho-therapist, Dr. Leslie Tompkins, to whom he's revealed his secret identity. Tompkins is a strong and important character, as well as Detective Blair Wong. Jim Gordon is already out of the picture, a disgraced former police officer.

It's the] idea of [taking] away all of these friends that he has, because that's what it would be like, and then instead put him on a head-on collision with somebody who is legitimately as smart as he is," Tomlin said. "These two people who are both kind of vying for the mantle of World's Greatest Detective just kind of slam into each other. A big part of it was just making a kind of adversary for him that would create interesting complications for later in the story." Not that that’s a bad thing in itself (there’s a detail over why he’s not got access to his family’s billions that’s a clever touch) but I think Tomlin’s fallen into a typical pitfall when writing Batman which is that he's gone much too dark and overly serious. Sure it’s more grounded but it’s also not fun. Sometimes a deathly serious tone works but it’s better if a writer has earned that right by building up to it in a series - which Tomlin hasn’t. I spent a lot of time in the Imposter universe thinking about what the hell Robin would look like. Just kind of thinking about this guy taking on a surrogate child and what that all means. We’ve seen so many different interpretations of it and …there’s a lot of darkness there, and also a lot of light. I haven’t sat down to actually write that story yet. But I certainly find myself daydreaming about what it might look like in this universe. This kind of take on the character is going to feel different from some of the other things that we’ve seen before. This is a very serious take on Batman. About his anger and rage driving him in his pursuit of criminals, and I think this issue is done very well, it's paced well after the first scene and know where to put the focus on different characters and also when to let the art do the work. Meanwhile, a man named Mr. Wesker is not happy about Batman being in Gotham City and wants Detective Wong to arrest him. Detective Wong learns that someone dressed as Batman has been killing innocent people and Gotham City Police Department decides to arrest the Batman killer. Bruce Wayne meets up with Leslie Thompkins and tells her that he isn't the killer, and confronted The Loman Family and Penguin about it, but they also denied hiring someone to be the killer. Bruce Wayne and Detective Wong deduce that the imposter is targeting criminals in the upper class and may have a personal vendetta against the victims. Detective Wong meets up with Bruce Wayne to talk about the Batman. [1]

In October Sorrentino will be joining forces with The Batman co-writer Mattson Tomlin and celebrated colorist Jordie Bellaire to bring us BATMAN: THE IMPOSTER. The story will be set early in the Dark Knight’s career, and he will have to unravel the mystery surrounding a second Batman—someone who’s murdering criminals in our hero’s name—while evading the authorities and the corrupt elite! It’s just not that interesting to see familiar characters looking/behaving slightly differently than normal. Dr. Leslie Thompkins here is opposed to Bruce being Batman and has a no-nonsense attitude towards his behaviour, and there are new versions of Ventriloquist and Ratcatcher (an unusual addition), while Bruce looks to be around the same age as Robert Pattinson. The series is set in an Alternate Continuity where Bruce Wayne has been active as Batman for around three years. While he's been making a difference, he's also made some powerful enemies. All the traditional power brokers of Gotham resent the disruption the Batman has brought to town…and it seems one of them has a plan to neutralize him. There’s a second Batman haunting Gotham’s rooftops and alleys — and this one has no qualms about murdering criminals, live and on tape. Mirroring seems to be a theme in this story: the Imposter is Batman without his moral code, and Wong is Bruce without his money/desire to mete out vigilante justice, although neither seem to be presented as options we should be favouring. Because what Bruce and Batman are in this book instead is kind of a boring alternative to both: humourless, dull, and quite one-dimensional overall - effective though, apparently. Mattson Tomlin: Blair Wong is an original character, and I wanted to introduce her as someone who could be Batman. I think that the further you get into the story, you realize how complimentary Bruce Wayne and Blair Wong really are to each other. They are both going to end up going head to head, and who is really going to be the world's greatest detective here?Andrea Sorrentino's european and peculiar style adds a lot to the whole ambiance of course. The funny thing with Sorrentino is that I don’t even like his style but can’t help being fascinated with it. It catches up your eye, whether you like or not, and never lets go of you. Still, some panels are not always clear and the storytelling, though ambitious, is sometimes confusing. Bryan, Carl (2021-11-25). "Review: Batman: The Imposter #2". Dark Knight News . Retrieved 2022-11-24. Mattson Tomlin, one of the screenwriters on the upcoming R-Batz movie, writes a grittier, more realistic version of the early days of Batman in Batman: The Imposter #1, and it’s pretty dull stuff!

There are a lot of villains in this that aren’t really recognizable as villains. They’re not the antagonists of the piece. In particular, the stuff with Ratcatcher is heartbreaking, almost from the minute he appears on panel. How did you decide on including Ventriloquist, Ratcatcher, Squid… you mentioned Firebug…how did you come to populating this story with these particular characters? Bruce Wayne's mission as the Batman has only been underway for a year or so, but he can tell he's making a difference. Unfortunately, he's made some powerful enemies. All the traditional power brokers of Gotham resent the disruption the Batman has brought to town...and it seems one of them has a plan to neutralize him. There's a second Batman haunting Gotham's rooftops and alleys-and this one has no qualms about murdering criminals, live and on tape. With the entire might of the Gotham City Police Department and Gotham's rich and powerful coming down on his head, Batman must find this imposter and somehow clear his name...but how can you prov e your innocence from behind a mask? At last. Andrea Sorrentino, my favorite artist, is drawing a Batman comic! Of course he was on Joker: Killer Smile and Batman: Smile Killer before this, but the former barely had Batman in it and the latter was only a one-shot, not a series like The Imposter. The colors are done by the one and only Jordie Bellaire, who just so happens to be my favorite colorist. The only unknown for me is the writer, Mattson Tomlin. Can this comic live up to expectations? Let’s have a look.Detective Wong is probably my favorite part of this, her character is really interesting and I want to see how she plays further into the story. Localized print versions of the series will also launch day and date in the following territories: Spain, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Italy, France, Russia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Japan, South Korea, Turkey, and Argentina. The writing is amazing. People talk like actual people, the plot is interesting and complex while remaining airtight.

Batman: The Imposter – A Three-Issue Prestige Format Series Offering Up a Unique Vision of Gotham’s Dark Knight! Arrant, Chris (October 8, 2021). "Dr. Leslie Thompkins has words with Bruce in Batman: The Imposter #1 preview". GamesRadar+ . Retrieved February 17, 2022. He's a character that there's just some dialogue that will never come out of his mouth, and anybody that goes to therapy, they know, suddenly they're saying things they've never said before," he continued. "So it just felt like a good place to put him because it was new, and kind of puts him on his heels." Rudolph, Casper (2021-10-13). "Batman: The Imposter #1 review". Batman News . Retrieved 2022-11-22.O estilo do uniforme se aproxima bem que temos visto em R. Pattinson nos trailers de “The Batman” (Matt Reeves). Bruce Wayne’s mission as the Batman has only been underway for a year or so, but he can tell he’s making a difference in this city. Unfortunately, he’s made some powerful enemies–and not just among the colorful maniacs called “super-villains.” All the traditional power brokers of Gotham resent the disruption the Batman has brought to town… and it seems one of them has a plan to neutralize him. There’s a second Batman haunting Gotham’s rooftops and alleys–and this one has no qualms about murdering criminals, live and on tape. With the entire might of the Gotham City Police Department and Gotham’s rich and powerful coming down on his head, Batman must find this imposter and somehow clear his name…but how can you prove your innocence from behind a mask? Far from being the impeccable and dignified manor-house it's usually depicted as being, Wayne Manor here is a mess since Bruce lives alone without a staff or butler—Alfred having quit during Bruce's troubled childhood years. The psychotherapist in question is Dr. Leslie Thompkins, a name Bat-fans are likely to recognize, and she isn’t playing around. Like her DC Universe counterpart, Leslie doesn’t approve of Bruce’s mission and worries about the effect being Batman has on his mental health. When Bruce shows up bloodied and beaten at Leslie’s doorstep, she considers sending him to Arkham. As an alternative, the psychotherapist makes a deal with Bruce—if he shows up for a therapy session every morning at dawn, she’ll keep his secret. If he’s late or if he skips a session, she’ll call the police and his life as Batman is over.
