About this deal

Of the new album, Kasabian’s seventh, he adds: “One thing about this record I feel over the other ones, is it definitely feels like a body of work that belongs together.

If this feels like a lot of complaints, at least it’s because Pizzorno offers up so many things that it is very easy to find bits that don’t work. The eerie indelibility of Days are Forgotten, or Fire’s lumpen power, are missing, leaving the strings of lyrical cliches that Pizzorno ladles up horribly exposed. Para los amantes de la parte más guitarresca y/o a los que tengan menos ganas de abrir su mente, puede ser un disco generador de displicencia. Smith (who’s worked with Stormzy and shared knob-twiddling duties with Pizzorno), but there’s darkness there too.The band tore up the rule book when they toured the UK on a sold out,17 date UK tour last autumn, and are set to do the same this summer with a string of landmark live shows. The songs that feel more conventional – Strictly Old Skool, for example – come as something of a relief as a result. So kann man den Umsatz „körperlicher“ Tonträger immer weiter zurückfahren und sich danach über die bösen, bösen Streamingdienste beschweren. Because, yes, there is a concept of sorts at the heart of this album, with a Serge-like mystic travelling through the record on a voyage of self-discovery. But for every one of those there’s Doug Yule taking charge of the Velvet Underground and recording Squeeze, or the two albums the Doors made with Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger singing after the death of Jim Morrison, albums so non-canonical that I defy any but the most committed Doors obsessive to even name them. Song titles sound like things you’d hear shouted outside the pub at closing time: Wasted, Are You Looking for Action?
