If your child is younger than four months old, or if there is no improvement after one week of treatment with the oral gel, you should see your GP. Although, if chlorhexidine is being used on the skin, make sure the treatment has been washed off from the nipple and breast before feeding.

Usually occurring as a result of damage to the lining of the mouth, these round or oval-shaped sores can be found anywhere on the inside of your mouth or on the tongue. Anaesthetics of the ester type are hydrolysed by esterases in the plasma and, to a lesser extent, in the liver. Also contains:Purified Water, Pregelatinised Potato Starch, Ethanol, Polysorbate 20 (E432), Sodium Saccharin, Cocoa flavour, Orange flavour, Glycerol. You shouldn’t eat or drink for 30 minutes after use, and use it at a different time to brushing your teeth. If you notice that your baby is not feeding as well as usual, or if you have any other concerns about your baby, talk to your health visitor, midwife or doctor as soon as possible.Not to be used in those individuals suspected of lacking the normal ability to convert methaemoglobin to haemoglobin, see Section 4. Daktarin Sugar Free 2% Oral Gel is used to treat superficial fungal infections of the mouth and throat. The manufacturer says that the gel has a passionfruit flavour, which we struggled to make out, although the gel doesn’t taste unpleasant.

With 10% benzocaine, Orajel is absolutely brilliant at numbing, allowing you to target the mouth ulcer directly.

Although the amount that passes into your blood is small, the additional alcohol may make you feel sleepy, dizzy or give you a headache. If you have ever had an allergic reaction to chlorhexidine digluconate or any of the other ingredients (see further information).
