About this deal

For example, if the battery has a voltage of 12.16V, charge it for 10 hours at the recommended charge rate. YBX Active EFB and AGM utilise the latest in next generation battery technology to provide greater endurance, more available cycles and faster charging. AGM also offers maximum safety with spill proof internal construction. Leisure and marine batteries are known as deep cycle types. This means they provide long-term energy delivery and are capable of a much greater number of deeper discharge cycles than automotive, or car, batteries.

Even in 2018, some UK built Motorhomes still require manual selection of charging either the Starter battery or the habitation area battery, but not both at the same time. Yes it is true that old fashion, single stage chargers of 13.5v - 13.8v dominated for most British built Caravans and Motorhomes up to about 2004. Chargers like those from Zig, Plug In Systems, BCA, etc were almost all 13.5v - 13.8v fixed output chargers, fitted in Swift's, Lunars, Coachman's, Elddis etc. Andrew, I assume the requirement for a second battery means you won't be on EHU much so the charger won't be doing much of the charging? manufacturer’s instructions. The charger then needs to be switched to the correct settings for

Constant Current Chargers

If you think the reason that 99% of british Motorhomes and Caravans failure to have an AGM optimised charger is historical, with lots of old fashioned, outdated chargers still in old vehicles from yesteryear, you would be wrong. data-parent="#accordion-3">

It’s important to maintain your battery during the off season as all batteries lose their A YBX Active battery provides a reliable, steady flow of current over a prolonged period providing it is recharged regularly when not in use. Being permanently linked to the vehicle’s built-in charger, it also performs the important task of smoothing out any irregularities in the device’s power supply. We have been campaigning for about 5 years for battery manufacturers to provide better awareness about the special needs of AGM batteries in Motorhomes because the charging systems that are mostly installed, both mains and Alternator, are not appropriate.

Yuasa Active Leisure L36-AGM Battery

We have seen AGM's on a 13.5v Sargent 151 that won't achieve 80% capacity, even after charging for days. Given that Halfords have a "partnership" with Yuasa, and the NCC describe some of their batteries as "Yuasa Halfords", it would be interesting to know if the Halfords HLB700 and HLB800 are in fact the same (but badge engineered) batteries as the Yuasa equivalents, L36-EFB and L36-AGM respectively. But then again when the NCC started the scheme the legendary Exide G80 got placed in the bottom category. My biggest problem in raising awareness, is Sargent Electronics who talk about 'protecting the battery' at 9.0v!!!! You can probably imagine how an AGM battery, that requires 14.8v, will last at being so under charged by 13.7v?

Much depends also on how you use your MH. If it's parked for long periods then drop the victron down to 13.2-4 for float. I have mine set a few tenths higher as the van is used almost weekly and "storage" mode isn't as much a concern as getting it properly charged when out. Although we are talking many moons ago, and the best modern batteries are now actually 13v, it is hard to shake it out. If it proves to be a good business model than other retailers will hopefully see the light and work change from within the industry. B. Never boost-charge any battery that is below 11.00 Volts as it will be too sulphated to accept a charge; scrap the battery or charge normally. Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) – Absorbent Glass Mat, or AGM, combines compressed glass fibres with acid. This extends that battery’s lifespan. As sealed units, maintenance is of a minimum. They can sit on their ends and sides, just not upside down. An AGM charger is required, and the units tend to be more expensive than Deep Cycle batteries.

B. These chargers should be able to charge over discharged (below 11.00V) batteries. Note that some have a special setting for all-calcium batteries. Constant Current Chargers The CB516-3 Charging Unit delivers 13.6v to the Starter Battery when the AGM 'Mode-C' is selected. (Note: should this be 14.4v as per your original post; if so I've done something wrong). The Varta LFD90 Dual purpose battery is much better suited to a motorhome Starter battery than a 'dedicated' starter battery, because motorhome starter batteries often slip to much lower discharge levels when the vehicle is idle and most Starter batteries fail to cope so well with this type of use, preferring to be used each day. An indication of just how poor the UK Caravan industry is in this area, despite being designed nearly 15 years ago, the Nordelettronica NE143 units are, even now, amongst the most advanced in the sector.
