About this deal

From the classics like the Old Fashioned and Martini to the trendy drinks like the Aperol Spritz and Moscow Mule, there's always something new to try. Slice the pears and ginger and add to the bottom of a 1-quart mason jar. Use a knife to extract the vanilla bean seeds and add them to the jar. Every few days, gently shake the container to mix the ingredients and encourage the infusion process.

The process is relatively simple, and with a little patience, you'll be rewarded with a stunningly fragrant and flavorful pear vodka. The Belvedere Smogóry Forest is crafted from the rare Dankowskie Diamond rye grain, from a single estate in Smogóry, a tiny village in rural western Poland. This is a very flavorful, robust and savory vodka, which is a true expression of the region’s particular terroir. The complete list of ingredients and full instructions for making this recipe can be found on the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post. How to make dried orange peel

You probably know that vodka is a clear alcoholic beverage that looks just like water. It’s also distilled alcohol. That means the alcohol is separated from the water through evaporation and condensation. It gets heated over and over again, so the alcohol gets stronger each time it goes through this process. It’s usually made from fermented grains but can also be made with potatoes, fruit, and sugar. Flavored Versus Infused Vodka The company describes its vodka as “sophisticated, clean, with hints of roasted grain and bread crusts” on the nose, “with expressive tones of fresh bread” on the palate. The name Syabry is the word for friend in the Belarusian language. I actually have spoken with some distiller friends about this very question. In my understanding, alcohol really has no shelf life in the traditional sense of the word. I doesn’t ‘go bad’ like a perishable item. I think the flavors may dim a bit over time from when they are first infused but I don’t know that for a fact. Even better, infused alcohol honestly couldn't be easier to make. Essentially, all you have to do is add your flavorings, let it infuse anywhere from a few days to a few weeks (depending on the recipe), then strain really well and store!

Other Master winners were Saranskiy Distillers Balchug XXI, for best Russian vodka. FNQ Spirits Croc Vodka (note that this is a different brand from Ciroc vodka) and GX Spirits Baxter Vodka won for best vodka in the Rest of World category. Both are Australian vodkas and are not available outside of the country. The vodka is very clean and fresh, and shows some pepper and a bit of wet stone minerality, along with a very slight hint of anise. If you want that recognizable sweetness of pears absorbed into your vodka, we recommend pears with the Sage Fruit label. Over 80% of our nation’s pear crop comes from Oregon and Washington. And Sage Fruit’s label says Washington right on it!

In this case, we used fresh sliced apple, pear, cinnamon and vanilla bean to infuse the vodka. The total infusion time is anywhere from 6-8 days, and it ends up being so flavorful that you barely even taste the vodka. I'd say I'm kidding, but I'm honestly not - it's miraculous! After 7 to 14 days, taste the vodka. If it has achieved your desired pear flavor, strain the liquid through a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer to remove the fruit pieces. We wouldn’t go so far as to say you should drink a shot of your pear vodka daily — but it’s got some beneficial ingredients, don’t you think? Vanilla Bean This cookie is set by Rubicon Project to control synchronization of user identification and exchange of user data between various ad services. But don’t worry, you don’t have to wait the full three weeks to start enjoying your DIY vodka — unless you want to, of course. Ingredients Sage Fruit Pears

Nope. Alcohol is a natural preservative that prevents bacteria from growing on the fruit. Even if you wait the full three weeks before the vodka is to your desired taste, the fruit will look the same as the day you put it in your mason jar. Is the fruit edible? To make the dried orange peel simply use a potato peeler to peel strips of skin off an unwaxed (or well scrubbed and rinsed orange) making sure you just take the skin and not the bitter white pith. Cold, rainy weather is a great excuse to drink lots of hot coffee, enjoy a home cooked meal and work on a few fun projects you've been putting off. One of our favorite DIY projects is making homemade alcohol infusions. When making pear vodka, the quality of your ingredients can have a direct impact on the final product. Start by selecting ripe, fresh pears for the most flavorful infusion. There are several varieties of pears available in markets, with the Bartlett, Bosc, and Anjou being popular choices. The Bartlett is the most commonly used pear for its sweetness and juiciness, while the Bosc and Anjou varieties have a more subtle, sophisticated flavor profile. Quality Vodka MattersCan you substitute anything? We don’t recommend it, but you could increase the fresh pear and use classic vodka. The vodka is wheat based, and silky smooth on the palate. It’s clean, crisp, but with a warming spiciness and subtle hints of fruit, along with vanilla and a bit of almond. Crisp, spicy, creamy — you can’t go wrong with DIY pear infused vodka. With only four ingredients and a few days of patience (if you have some to spare), enjoy your new favorite nightcap right at home. No additives or sugar, and best served with a good book, bubble bath, or your favorite movie. Muddle the pear aggressively. You can have a heavy hand: you’ll want the pear fully mushed. It may be juicy or more like a paste or sauce: that’s ok!
