About this deal

From a decent headphone collection, D30 worked only with dynamic headphones. It didn’t have any issues driving desktop headphones as Kennerton Magni and Gjallarhorn, it worked absolutely fantastic with Fostex TH-909 that were reviewed few days ago. I never went past 35 volume position out of a maximum of 60. It worked nice with Erzetich Mania and decent enough with those huge Erzetich Phobos planar magnetic headphones. In all fairness, Phobos was the only planar headphone that worked decent with D30 at about 45 volume position. Any Quad, Hifiman, Audeze and Kennerton planar-magnetic headphones were unsatisfactory on the little D30. I was maxed out and headphone drivers started breaking up, offering a lot of distortion in the process. At close to maximum volume, D30 starts clipping and distorting, up to 50 to maximum 55 volume position everything seems to be controlled and clean sounding, but past that position, distortion makes its appearance and will surely ruin your listening pleasure. The grey colored chassis is made from high rigidity aluminium that is not only very beautiful looking and elegant but it also helps to eliminate vibrations and add better electromagnetic shielding. Timbre is quite natural, smooth and not artificial and although some digital artifacts are creeping here and there coloring the sound a little metallic, nevertheless it never sounds bright or shrill.

Although both DACs have an aluminum chassis, the grey finished D30 has a softer aesthetic compared to the SU-8s. When lifting both DACs the SH-8s is the heavier of the 2, maybe because it’s wider to accommodate the pair of balanced XLR outputs. At first glance, the D30 is a compact desktop DAC/Amp that is equipped with lots of options such as a headphone amplifier section, various input options including Bluetooth and MQA. The user can control the unit either with the multifunction button or the remote control which has also a couple of handy shortcuts. The new, 2021 version uses a second generation XMOS receiver to feed a single piece of ES9068AS from ESS. As such it is highly recommended as a DAC or a preamplifier for active monitors and will also cover headphone use with more sensitive models and IEMs. This makes the remote a bit harder to use comparatively since you’ll have to keep pressing “C” before using it to control the SU-8s. Also, the remote on the SH-8s is comparatively less sensitive. Performance Loxjie decided to assign filter selection to the function button instead of the more useful to the average user sound modes which are hidden further inside a menu together with other useful settings such as DPLL mode and screen brightness.

Loxjie D30 DAC Review — Headfonics

Le BT fonctionne bien (je n'utilise pas trop, juste testé.....). Ce n'est pas la philo de ce type d'appareil, je pense, mais c'est un plus. At this price range - don't over think it. Buy one with the connections you need (USB/Toslink/Coax) and remote control (or not). The rest - IMO - is academic, unless you have something exotic of a setup, or are one of those golden-eared types that can ID these in a blind test.Loxjie went with an ultra-low noise power supply (12V 1A output), I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this exact one in few devices made by SMSL (SP200 and M200 to be more exact). I’m not judging, just telling you the facts. Power supply seems to be well made, there are several voltage regulators in front and after it, it’s well made if you ask me. There are quite a few bigger and smaller Nichicon electrolytic caps for power filtering and storing. There aren’t many of them, they will not store a huge power capacitance, so don’t expect the nicest punch and impact with headphones or speakers alike. Transient response should be slightly affected by this. With a wider than usual soundstage, directionality is kept intact even for quieter objects. The overall presentation however gives a smaller picture than expected but nothing seems unnatural nor tinny. DAC

Leaving competition aside, the LOXJIE D30 (2021) is an excellent sounding standalone DAC with MQA decoding without any serious shortcomings except the headphone amplifier that should be considered as a welcomed bonus rather than a serious performer. ITX PC / WiiM Pro - Mola Mola Makua - Apollon NCx500+SS2590 - Thiel CS3.7 => (loading) March Sointuva AWG There is greater diffusion in the bass region which has a less pointed composition. It also digs deeper into the sub-bass which is quite pleasing for energetic drum arrangements. The main reason I didn't like the Onkyo was because of a failure in their equipment, and a failure of their customer service ( Has anyone else struggled with Onkyo repairs?)... but I think a warmer sound would suit the room once I've got the equipment in the right place (it's a long lounge/diner). It extracts details in treble and engages with its crisp yet non-sibilant appeal. Taps on cymbals produce a welcoming sense of space and air but subtleties are not expressed enough compressing some elements to blur into their nearest neighbor. This allows the EX5 to also have the same decoding capabilities as the D30, maxing out at 32bit/768kHz, DSD512, and the option to decode MQA. Both devices also have a Bluetooth adaptor that allows for AptXHD and LDAC.
