About this deal

Manufacturers can make whatever claims they like about the comfort or usability of their mouse/keyboard combos, but first-hand testing like we've done here is the only way to know for sure if a combo is worth what you're paying for it. That said, there are some basics worth keeping in mind. Wired vs. Wireless If you prefer an elegant, minimalist keyboard for your desktop, Dell’s Premier Multi-Device Wireless Keyboard is fantastic. This full-size wireless keyboard has 109 keys, including 12 programmable function keys. The aluminum board has relatively large keys with scissor switches, and it’s easy to type accurately at speed. There isn’t much travel, but it’s whisper quiet. The laser mouse keeps your hand happy and supported with large sculpted, right-hand design. The rubber surface is very soft to the touch and excellent grip. The MK850 is both, though. On a technical level what’s happening is that a game reads mouse-and-keyboard inputs from your mouse and various non-analog keys like Ctrl and the Spacebar. Then it gets controller inputs from WASD. There is little sense in looking at buying separate computer keyboards and mouses when you can buy a combo kit and know that the quality, ease of use and software will all be the same. What’s more, having a matching keyboard and mouse is a great way to keep your workspace looking smart and tidy.

A wireless combo gives you inherent freedom of use, at the cost of worrying about battery life and potential interference. If you look at an identical mouse/keyboard set where one is wired and one is wireless, the wireless variant will usually be more expensive. You’re paying for freedom to move around and minimize clutter. Or…well, sort-of. As I said, games aren’t built to support Aimpad. Whenever it’s enabled? The corresponding keyboard inputs are disabled. The pros and cons of wired and wireless setups are simple, but worth going over. Mouse/keyboard combos provide a wireless experience either with Bluetooth connectivity or via a wireless dongle that plugs into a USB port. Wired hardware needs to be plugged directly into the laptop or PC directly, which will also take up a USB port. Keyboards and mice typically outlast most computing devices. Even though the components in this combo are made of plastic, during our time with them they seemed well-built, durable, and in it for the long haul. While there is no way to tell for sure, we found no reason to believe they won’t outlast their warranty and then some. While it is difficult to find scope for improvement in the M720 Triathlon, the K850 Performance keyboard's appeal can be enhanced by the addition of a cradle to the design, as well as making the palm rest detachable. As a combo, the whole is more than the sum of parts, thanks to the DuoLink features.

To calibrate the Aimpad function of each key, press the key and hold it down for 4 seconds until the corresponding Aimpad KEYS change from red to green, this means that it was successfully calibrated. Q: I’m using an older OS and the keyboard is not being recognized as a controller in Windows. What do I do? Logitech warrants the K850 one year under normal use. That is typical for a new keyboard or mouse. Our Take

FOLLOW

The reason for this delay is because it is acting as if you are unplugging the device. When it’s on, the keyboard is recognized as a controller. When turning off, the keyboard gets recognized as a keyboard. Most of the time, there is no reason to turn on/off and you should access keyboard functionality via M1.

Keep in mind that if a game isn’t on this list, it doesn’t mean it won’t work with Aimpad. It just means it either hasn’t been tested yet or may require some tweaking with in-game settings to behave properly. The Titan Grey finish is matched by the mouse, which boasts seven buttons, including five programmable ones. The sensor is adjustable between 1,000 and 4,000 dots per inch (DPI), which is sensitive enough for most people. The sturdy keyboard has 3 tilt positions to meet your preference. Move it from flat (0 degrees) to 4 or 8 degrees for a slightly tilted angle. All of the details of the Logitech MK710 and the Logitech MK850 are recapped in the comparison chart below. In addition to the batteries, which Logitech says should last for about two years or two million keystrokes, the box includes the company’s multi-device Bluetooth dongle, which lets you pair up to seven Logitech peripherals, as well as a USB extension cable for relocating the dongle to a more suitable position, if required. Warranty informationRegardless, it’s not hard to enable or disable Aimpad. You don’t need to go through that whole calibration routine again each time, so long as you just use the profiles to swap instead of turning off Aimpad entirely. Using UIOP and JKL; keys as a visual representation, you can see what keys need to be calibrated. (NOTE: The corresponding AIMPAD keys will change to RED when calibration is needed, and GREEN when the key is calibrated successfully.) To connect MK850 mouse & keyboard to your computer, plug the provided Unifying receiver into a USB port, use an existing Unifying receiver, or connect with Bluetooth.

The MK850 works with Windows® and Mac® operating systems, allowing and you to switch between all the devices you have connected. M3: Driving Mode - Aimpad is enabled in the WASD keys with the W and S keys functioning as the Left and Right analog triggers of a controller. Typically, when driving in video games using a controller, the right trigger acts as your gas pedal, and the left as your brake. Therefore, W controls your gas, S your brake, and A/D keys will act as the steering wheel. A:There may be a slight delay in keyboard functionality upon using the hard on/off button located on the top right of the keyboard. This delay will vary depending on the user’s OS (ex. WIN 7 will need around 5-10 seconds to switch). The K850 Performance's options include the ability to keep the keyboard always in the Windows layout and the option to use the F1-F12 keys as standard function keys (without using the Fn. key qualifier). The configurable keys include the Home button, F1 through F4, F11, and F12. They can be mapped to a variety of Windows functions / programs such as closing windows, Cortana, Calculator etc. Concluding Remarks Any USB-equipped or Bluetooth® Smart ready device that supports an external keyboard (HID profile).

A:This happens when the keyboard is not calibrated and the deadzones have been decreased using the sensitivity keys on the top right of the keyboard. Please calibrate your keyboard using. While many of these input peripherals have been designed to maximize comfort and convenience, the MK850 has the uncommon ability to pair with up to three separate computing devices and switch between them with the touch of a button. Simple Encroaching Elegance The mouse buttons, too, assume the appropriate roles according to the paired OS. A primary difference, though, between the K780 multi-device keyboard and the K850, is that the former has a groove across the top for holding your mobile devices, such as your smartphone or tablet, upright. Comfort and Other Considerations The MK850 ships with Aimpad disabled. Thus your first step out of the box is to hit the button in the top-right to turn it on. You then need to calibrate all eight keys—Q, W, E, R, A, S, D, and F—by holding down each key until a corresponding LED turns from green to red. Once all eight are calibrated, you’ll be in Aimpad mode. A: If you’re using a PC with an OS older than Windows 10 (WIN 7/ WIN XP / WIN Vista), you must install the XBox 360 Controller Driver before connecting the MK850 for the first time:
