About this deal

The funny thing about the single of Slave to the Rhythm is that although everybody remembers it now, it wasn’t a huge hit at the time. The video by Jean-Paul Goude was brilliant. Grace performed it on Wogan in a full-face covering. I know now that she was years ahead of her time. It probably wasn’t great for the song’s commercial prospects. Evans, Busola. In fact, Horn’s name is so synonymous with huge chart success, it’s easy to overlook what a peculiar route he took to fame. He began his career in the early 70s as a bassist with the Ray McVay orchestra, best known as the house band on TV’s Come Dancing. “It was the best-paid gig around,” he shrugs, before correcting himself: “Well, the best paid shit gig around. We played anything that was a hit, so it was a good grounding in what makes a good pop record.” Horn, Trevor (13 October 2022). Adventures in Modern Recording: From ABC to ZTT (firsted.). Nine Eight Books. This book is Trevor's story in his own words, as told through the prism of twentythree of his most important songs - from the ones that inspired him to the ones that defined him. This play-by-play memoir transports readers into the heart of the studio to witness the making of some of music's most memorable moments, from the Buggles' ground-breaking 'Video Killed the Radio Star' to Band Aid's perennial 'Do They Know It's Christmas?', via hits such as 'Relax', 'Poison Arrow ', 'Owner of a Lonely Heart' and 'Crazy'.Horn produced the ninth album by the synth-pop duo the Pet Shop Boys, Fundamental, released in May 2006. It reached No. 5 in the UK chart. In the same month, he featured in a Pet Shop Boys concert specially recorded for BBC Radio 2. Horn produced an album version of the event, Concrete, released on 23 October 2006. Horn also produced Captain's debut album, This is Hazelville, released late 2006. In the same year, he also worked with British band Delays on their song "Valentine", which was released as the lead single from their album You See Colours. He has also worked with John Legend and David Jordan. In addition to recording and touring with Asia through more than three decades, Downes has also recorded a number of solo albums and collaborated with many other artists such as former bandmate John Wetton, former Deep Purple Glenn Hughes and Trapeze for a tour that produced the live album Welcome to the Real World, Ride the Tiger with Greg Lake, and a brief appearance on Kate Bush's " Sat in Your Lap". In 2005, he joined Yes drummer Alan White's eponymous band, White, on their debut album. The big budgets, the bad behaviour (Horn has to be physically restrained from punching Yes’ Chris Squire in the face at one point), the jet-setting (Concorde is mentioned more than once) and the enormous amounts of time spend in lavish studios, are now largely a product of a bygone age, so the ‘modern’ in the title is something of a misnomer, or perhaps said with a tongue firmly in cheek. However the music endures and these accounts of the sessions that created that music –Trevor blowing his own horn –are both as entertaining and as enlightening as you would hope for. A song, "Extraordinary Life" from their previous album, Phoenix (2008), was chosen as the trailer for US's biggest reality TV show America's Got Talent. Since 2011, Downes shares his time between YES and Asia, touring and recording with both bands. Roberts, David (2006). British Hit Singles & Albums (19thed.).
