Episode Six gets two commentaries, one by Executive Producers/writers/directors David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, together with Emilia Clarke, and one by director of photography Jonathan Freeman and camera operator Ben Wilson. The first is pretty good, combining plenty of trivia with lots of enthusiasm from Clarke - including a light-hearted attempt to justify her character’s actions in the last two episodes, and one or two wry nods by the producers to the fans’ less than ecstatic reactions. There’s even a discussion about the infamous accidental coffee cup from episode four, during which the producers try to blame an outraged Clarke.

Martin, HBO’s Game of Thrones tells the story four great family Houses in the ancient, alternate world kingdom of Westeros—the Starks, the Lannisters, the Baratheons, and the Targaryens. Each of them is vying for power, for control of the kingdom’s Iron Throne, with political intrigue, bloodletting, and betrayal a-plenty. the 4K UHD releases of the first and last seasons) have a lot of salient information about cameras and DIs and other relevant datapoints, but the What hasn't been mentioned is the fall out and other news that came out of the Charter / Spectrum vs. Disney deal to get ESPN returned to cable two days ago.Game of Thrones is the first TV series released on Blu-ray to incorporate Dolby Atmos. Having seen the series Blu-ray I looked forward to seeing what Atmos would bring to the experience. In listening to the various surround mixes I found them to be fair to moderately active in the use of overhead sounds but considering the source material that’s not a complete surprise. Game of Thrones has elements of action/adventure but much of the time is driven by dialog. The show features a variety of interior and exterior locations/sequences containing a host of recorded sounds/effects designed to replicate its environs. Color enjoys a decent upgrade, too. Skin tones look richer and typically more natural, flames look more vibrant, the eyes of the White Walkers look more terrifyingly blue, interiors look much more intense and ‘solid’, and the usual copious amounts of blood looks, well, more bloody. different editions of the first season had already come out on (1080) Blu-ray, the release was evidently HBO's The second Ep 5 commentary features producer Chris Newman, SFX supervisor Sam Conway, and Visual Effects Supervisor Joe Bauer. This is a bit more stilted and dry than the other one, but there’s a decent amount of ‘making of’ trivia for fans to lap up. There’s also a brief but intriguing reference at one point to the ‘extremely high resolution’ of the footage creating some very large files to deal with in post-production…

When it comes to usability, a dedicated Blu-ray player trumps the PS5 hands down. An included standard remote is better suited to disc menu navigation than a joypad. You won’t be derailed by low battery warnings, or told to wait while firmware updates.

To compare, the Columbua 4K Collections offer a lot of variety and extensive features (my favorite being Vol 2). And the Paramount Presents home media line is good at selecting the right titles and what kind of additional material to toss on. And even films outside of that like Popeye or Dragonslayer are still given good treatment. If all the above hasn’t convinced you that a dedicated Blu-ray is better at spinning discs, then nothing will. But this doesn’t amount to a hill of beans if you actually want a PlayStation 5 for, y’know, gaming.

palpable renditions of fortress masonry or things like the wood grain patterns on some of the ships. I'm not sure the 4K UHD presentation always At the same time, though, while the more casual movie fan market (the sort of people probably still buying DVDs today) may well turn increasingly to streams for their movie needs in the coming years, there will be a big enough enthusiast market to keep disc releases coming for many years yet. Especially as premium TVs, surround sound systems and soundbars keep getting better and better, and so keep raising the expectation bar for just how good a home cinema experience can be. Of course, whether the movie theater chains would ever allow a 'better-than-the-silver-screen' format to be released without revolting is another question. (The answer is: no.) Does this even need a new disc at all? A dedicated 4K Blu-ray player will give you better image quality than the PS5… but do you want a whole separate box? (Image credit: Future) PS5 as 4K Blu-ray player: image and sound quality Depending on how to you want to 'measure' it, 35mm film is generally considered to be able to provide somewhere between 4K and 6K resolution when digitized, so there'd be no point in trying to turn the world's library of movies into 8K.

Ideally, you should buy a 4K Blu-ray player. Despite some 8K TVs now being released, 4K will be the main resolution used by the TV and film industry for years to come. So that’s what you get in terms of special features. As you can clearly see, it’s a lot. And much of it is very good content indeed. The question you might be asking now is: What don’t you get? And to those jumping up and down, thinking they're getting something special from this set, remember, it's only a few things that haven't been released on disc (especially blu-ray) or previously available only through the Disney Club stuff, and maybe some big deal (extra) interview upscaled from SD to HD.
