About this deal

As Mariano awkwardly begins his proposal speech, Mirabel tries to hurry the proposal along, and Señora Guzmán tells the family that since everyone in the family has a talent, Mariano wanted to start by singing a song and she asks Luisa to get the piano. Mirabel watches with genuine concern as Luisa gets up from the table crying, and Mirabel forces Mariano out of his seat and on one knee while insisting that it's family tradition to sing after a proposal is given. At the beginning of the film, Isabela appears to be kind and gentle person, who is perfect in every way, such as creating beautiful flowers and plants. However, this is mainly a facade, as it is later revealed she is only acting that way to meet Abuela's expectations. When Isabela decides to embrace her imperfections, she is shown to be very high-spirited and enjoys making a wide variety of plants, even those that are "imperfect". Although a coincidence, the fact that Mirabel rhymes with the word "miracle" reinforces the name choice for the character. [12]

Isabela is Mirabel's older sister who is smart and brilliant. She is so perfect that flowers start to bloom with every footstep she takes. This leads to a complicated relationship with imperfect Mirabel as everything Isabela does seems to be a success. [1] Antonio Madrigal: Antonio is Isabela's younger cousin. Isabela wanted Antonio's gift ceremony to go well and decorated the entire Casa Madrigal with flowers for her cousin's special day. During the ceremony, Isabela waved her hands in a jump of joy when her cousin received her gift. After Mirabel interrupted Antonio's gift ceremony, Isabela looked at her sister with a lot of anger because she thought she was envious of Antonio's successful ceremony and wanted to ruin the day. In the family photo at the end of the film, Isabela was happily trying to get closer to her cousin. Alma Madrigal: Alma is Dolores' grandmother. When Alma asks her if Isabela and Mariano had a date, Dolores responds dutifully. Dolores is also seen assisting Alma when La Casa Madrigal/Casita falls down by sitting her down in a small piece of debris to calm her own. Dolores seems to try to please her grandmother by only telling what is wanted to be heard, even though Alma was probably a bit angry at her for revealing a secret that broke Casita.

When Isabela tries to drag Mirabel out with her vines, Mirabel insists that she's sorry, and, struggling against the vines, says that she wasn't trying to ruin Isabela's life. She insists that there are much bigger problems, and calls Isabela a "selfish, entitled princess." Isabela accuses Mirabel of only ever messing up her life. Mirabel tells Isabela that nothing is ruined and she can still get married to Mariano. Isabela confesses to Mirabel that she never wanted to marry Mariano in the first place and she was only doing it for the family. In Isabela's anger, she accidentally creates a cactus. Alma tells Mirabel she knows she wants to help, but Antonio's gift ceremony has to go perfectly, and that the best way for Mirabel to help would be to stand aside and let the members of the family do what they do best. Mirabel, visibly saddened by this, forces a smile on her face and tells Alma that she understands. When the conversation ends, Mirabel overhears her mother and grandmother talking, and overhears her grandmother say that if Antonio's gift ceremony doesn't go well it'll be a sad day for all of them. Early in production, Dolores' gift was originally to heal people through her food, however, it was given to Julieta, due to her more maternal personality. Dolores was gifted with the power of enhanced hearing, which means she can hear everything, even the slightest noise such as an eye twitching. According to Mirabel's song, she can hear a pin drop and a chorus from a mile away. She however also has to hear normal interactions at the same time she hears these things, making her gift out to sometimes be a pain, and when people applaud and clap loudly like when Antonio received his gift, she has to cover her ears. She also seen clapping with her fingers, a sign that loud applause hurts her ears. Mirabel Madrigal: Mirabel is Isabela's youngest sister. When they were younger, Isabela and Mirabel were very close, but drifted apart as they got older. By the start of the film, their relationship had become so strained that they have mutual contempt for each other. Isabela's dislike of Mirabel is shown several times throughout the film, such as being visibly annoyed when she accidentally flipped her hair in Mirabel's face and Mirabel got mad, subsequently commenting that Mirabel was in the way, rolling her eyes at Mirabel when she interrupted Antonio's party to warn everyone that the house was in danger, and glaring at Mirabel during dinner with the Guzmáns. She even proclaimed that she hated Mirabel and that Mirabel ruined her life. Despite this, their relationship dramatically improves during the song " What Else Can I Do?", when Mirabel was able to see what her sister actually felt and encouraged her to embrace her imperfection. By the end of the song, the two sisters hug which causes the magic to become stronger and the candle to burn brighter. Diane Guerrero, her voice actor, describes her character: "Isabela was sort of given the role of kind of being perfect, and her gift is to grow, make things grow, plants and beautiful flowers. And so, I guess with this gift sort of came the expectation that she just sort of had to be perfect, and just sew, and make beautiful, and sort of, she uses it kind of like a defense mechanism, something that has worked for her for so long. But I think she discovers that you know, when you're growing up, and you're an actual, real human being, that perfection really isn't sustainable." [1] Physical Appearance

About Encanto

At the start of the film, it is the morning of Antonio's fifth birthday, meaning that he is expected to receive a gift by the end of the day. Some kids in the Encanto arrive at la Casa Madrigal, and ask Mirabel what type of gift Antonio has, to which Mirabel replies that they’ll find out that night. When the kids keep asking about the family, Mirabel talks about the family, introducing her grandmother, cousins, sisters, parents, aunt and uncles in "The Family Madrigal". Mirabel initially stays in the shadows and watches Antonio at the end of the aisle. Antonio turns to her and holds out his hand, and Mirabel says that she can't. Antonio insists that he needs her support, and Mirabel reluctantly takes Antonio's hand and guides him down the aisle and up the stairs to his door. As she does this, Mirabel remembers how her ceremony was unsuccessful ten years earlier and how sad she was when her door vanished. As a 5-year-old child, Mirabel still had her signature green glasses and looked very similar to her teenage self, with the same hairstyle and small face. On the night of her ceremony, Mirabel wore a white party dress that had golden butterflies embroidered on it and lace ruffles at the sleeves, and a light pink bow pin placed near the top and slightly to the left side of her head. She also wore white and gold flats that matched her dress.
