About this deal

Likewise, the MXR M300 Reverb delivers six excellent sounding reverbs that just grabs your attention. For some guitarists, the range of reverb or the level of control over each effect may not be enough. There are other pedals where you have greater control over different parameters. But if you’re not too concerned about fine-tuning and just want a great sounding reverb, it’s hard to go past the M300. The lower left rotary switch knob on the Oceans 11’s front panel gives the strongest indication of the complexity lurking within this diminutive device. Here, users will find 11 different settings that consist of hall, spring, plate, reverse, echo, tremolo, modulated, dynamic, auto-infinite, shimmer, and polyphonic effects. I finally got a chance to demo my new MXR Reverb pedal! Wow! It has 6 great usable reverb presets which are individually tweak-able for your preference. Easy to navigate even for an old dog with 41+ years of live performance experience. I'm using it in a worship / praise band with a side of original music. It adds just the right sweetening to perk up the ears of the congregation.

A close alternative worth considering is the TC Electronic Hall of Fame Reverb pedal. It’s worth comparing to the MXR M300 as it has a wider range of features and a lower price. So if you want more flexibility, features, and control, it’s a good alternative. While other pedals such as the Hall of Fame Reverb may have more types of reverb, I feel the M300 covers all the important bases and should fit most guitarists’ needs for reverb. Overall impression Even though none of these would replace my existing trio of reverbs, and my most likely next addition to the collection is the GFI System Specular Tempus - the Dark World in particular has something which draws me in - I may try to accommodate it in some way eventually - here’s hoping a few more of these will be stereo by then!

To switch to the Trials Bypass mode, you need to put the pedal through a start up sequence explained in the manual here. It’s disappointing to see this as other pedals tend to simply use an internal switch. But as you will probably only set it once if you want to use that bypass mode, it’s isn’t too big a deal. Sound Presets are accessible in separate banks of three presets (A, B, and C), which are accessible via the pedal’s three footswitches and/or the rotary value control knob. The large LED displays preset info, including its number and a programmable name. The LEDs surrounding the rotary reverb-type control change color from green to amber to let users know when a preset has been modified. Mod: a modulated plate reverb. If the Plate reverb sounds too plain or dull, try Mod instead. I feel it adds a nice amount of color into the effect without it feeling overwhelming.

Most guitarists who love reverb fall into either the vintage or ambient camp, and both are well catered for here. The plate, spring and room modes have a convincing depth and sense of physical space, and record very well. Darker tone settings yield impressively authentic, retro-flavoured results. MXR make some incredible pedals but oddly enough they have never really had many reverb pedals in their lineup. The M300 has 6 different reverbs available at your feet with three simple controls to get everything set up up nice and easy. Related buyer's guides Shimmer is an ethereal, octave-up reverb effect with a long, sustaining tail that produces a synth-like texture, and the polyphonic reverb applies two programmable pitch shifts to the reverb tail to also generate complex, synth-like sounds. This is because reverb is a time-based effect, so putting it in front of other effects can make your whole signal sound like it’s really far away. This might be a cool effect you could use for a certain style of music and some guitarists like to put reverbs ahead of their fuzz or distortion pedals to create unique, droning guitar tones. What is the difference between digital and analog reverb pedals?ROOM style adds subtle body and projection to your guitar tone at shorter decay times while longer decay times yield rich organic space that doesn’t wash out. I've been following this one from the earliest developments - nearly a couple of years now it feels like. And this feels genuinely like a proper Reverb Workstation in its most practical compact enclosure. With dual footswtiches, LCD colour screen, 16 user-tweakable and saveable Patches, and 8 hands-on controls - this is almost everything I could have imagined it to be. Alas no stereo outputs, and no algorithm combining - which I think will be the essential take-away of 2018. This is the most expensive of those pedals featured here, and the enormous feature set covered justifies its price-point. It is however, not quite up with my Strymon Big Sky, Boss RV-500 or Source Audio Ventris. And even though somewhat lesser in many regards, I feel that Chase Bliss Audio's Dark World has somewhat overshadowed it in targeting that sort of demographic with slightly more ingenuity. It is nevertheless a fantastic reverb library and sounds as good as you would expect of Dr Scientist. I own over 20 reverb pedals. There isn't any mode on this one that impresses me and that I haven't heard done 100 times better on other pedals.

The M300 is a stereo pedal although it might not look it at first glance. Unlike other reverb pedals which give you two inputs and two outputs, the M300 only gives you one of each. To run it as a stereo pedal, you first need to set an internal switch to stereo. Then you need to runTRS cables to and from the M300. We particularly love the shimmer mode with its angelic chorus of octave-up voices adding a synth-like quality to your guitar tone. The modulated mode is fantastic as well, adding a dark, warm wash with a lovely movement to it to your sound. You get a dynamic mode that responds to your playing touch, and even a nice delay plus reverb to throw in the mix. Spring: a classic guitar amp reverb instantly recognizable by guitarists. If your amp doesn’t have a spring reverb and you want to get that vintage sound, it’s a really fun reverb to use. If you want a simple reverb pedal that covers all the main types of reverb, then the M300 should suit you. The pedal is easy to use and sounds fantastic. The types of reverb available are inspiring and give you plenty to play around with. Who isn’t the MXR Reverb for? Here at Guitar World, we are experts in our field, with many years of playing and product testing between us. We live and breathe everything guitar related, and we draw on this knowledge and experience of using products in live, recording and rehearsal scenarios when selecting the products for our guides. It seems that 2018 has very significantly been a Year of and for Reverb - with half of these featured recent additions to the category. I have rarely seen as well coordinated a campaign as for the very recent Chase Bliss Audio Dark World launch - which has somewhat overshadowed the slightly earlier release of Dr Scientist’s long-awaited Atmosphere. We’ve also seen Neunaber’s second incarnation of the Immerse, two very highly versatile 11-mode pedals from Electro-Harmonix and Mad Professor, and a properly Spacey Reverb from Alexander Pedals. After you get a feel for each type of reverb, you can then move to your normal style of playing and see which types of reverb suit your style. Plate, Spring, and Epic sound very metallic in their reverb trails. If you plan on recording with this thing don't bother, it is a little less noticeable into an amplifier.

Go on jimdunlop.com to learn how you can adjust it further under the advanced [ settings ] video. A truly well thought out pedal that punches way above its price point. If I had one complaint it would be that the blue LED light is very bright ! That's easily remedied however. If you're sitting on the fence as I was for several weeks jump onto the MXR M 300 reverb.
